On the surface it seems like a bizarre move, but I think Lukaku is a much better player than he's shown at United and one of the key things Pep's staff live by is that players can always improve their basic technique a lot if they're taught properly - no matter how old. Abidal is the example spoken about in Pep Confidential, where he was a physical lump when he arrived and totally changed his game.

Lukaku's touch used to be better, 2 1/2 years playing Mourinho-ball barely being involved in games brought it down to the level it's at now, and if Sarri & Juventus coach him properly I wouldn't be surprised to see it improve drastically.

One of the things that's always been weird about Lukaku is he has an incredible cross when he ends up out wide. In Belgium's best games in the world cup, Martinez put him on the wing and he was unplayable, way too big for any fullback to deal with, and running in behind he caused havoc. Sarri's #9's get a lot of license to go out wide because the wingers come in, and especially with Ronaldo that will be the case, so maybe that's one reason he wants him.

I don't know if he'll ever be one of the very best strikers in the world, but given some proper coaching, playing in a well coached side with his confidence back and I think there's a decent chance he makes United look like idiots for selling him in 18 months time.

I only wish I shared your optimism probably referring to him as a donkey was a bit harsh. But lets be honest he is never going to be a top striker at the highest level. When he is playing at his level like he was at Everton he did look at handful just like he did at West Brom. But when push comes to shove for him to bridge that gaping chasm between a mid table side and a decent mid table player and a formidable champions league level player I just don't see it. Maybe I will be proved wrong but having seen plenty of him I really don't see where its gonna come from. Maybe Juve are so desperate to get rid of Dybla they will take him in exchange with the knowledge that on of the Milan sides will snap him up and they will get there money that way. But to me this smacks of the blind faith Sarri placed in Higuian last season?

I think it is an issue of style, top sides tend to play possession football where as Lukaku tends to like a more direct game. If you had a top side that played a lot of crosses / direct balls into the box then he would score a boat load of goals. He scored a load for the rags and Everton. He just looks out of place when the ball is being pinged around.

He is the better side of the swap. He gets CL, wants to leave the swamp and Sarri has plans to implement him in his team. Dybala on the other hand is an opportunistic signing for United. He doesn’t want to leave but gets a 33% increase to his wages while being forced out of Turin. I honesty predict a Di Maria/Samchez situation where he does not care and ends up going to PSG in a years time.

Beautiful player to watch but will rot hard and fast at United just like any creative player there and be dropped for someone like Jesse Lingard. If Sane left he'd be a fine last minute replacement but you already have Bernardo as that type of utility genius and is better anyway aside from goal scoring ability which isn't a problem anyway. Think Sarri is bonkers if he lets him go, he's tailor made for Juventus. I'm shocked Madrid aren't all over him, maybe they already are and are just trying to get rid of the Welsh glass first.

Think his problem is he's almost 26 and we don't know what his position is. He's not really a striker, second-striker, CAM or winger, but some awkward hybrid of them all. Clearly a good player but not good enough to build a team around IMO.

That is the thing with the rags link - if he goes there who scores the goals. You would have to put Rashford up front and hope he scores 2x the goals he has in every prior season. If Rashford doesn't work where do they turn...

I agree about the improving touch. Niall Quinn (used to be!) a big hero of mine with a game not exactly based on his first touch (which was usually a flick on to David White!) improved his control in his later seasons before moving on.
