Update your drivers?

Could be anti virus related, I do not think that is driver related as you stated that you have tried an external drive as well which may well be a different brand/model. But it is worth a shot trying to update the driver and Firmware.

Try disabling the anti virus and then insert the CD and see if it crashes, I have known PC's to crash due to anti virus sofware throwing a wobbly when scanning CD's.

My first thought is that it may be the laser that reads cd's in the drive (it does happen that they will read one not the other), however saying that an external drive does the same I would suggest having a look in device manager and seing if there is an exclamtion mark next to the cd/dvd drive. If so it is more than likeley the upper/ lower filters in the registry have become corrupted. If you google it there is a fix it from microsoft, but it is easy enough to do manually.
Good Luck.

Boot up your system in safe mode
<a class="postlink" href="http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm</a>

then try, if the same problem occurs this rules out any third party software ie; AntiVirus.

and it's more likely your registry has become corrupted.

Download this: <a class="postlink" href="http://download.cnet.com/Free-Window-Registry-Repair/3000-2086_4-10606555.html?tag=mncol;5" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://download.cnet.com/Free-Window-Re ... ag=mncol;5</a>

Does what it says on the tin.
Advanced system Care is also recommended but for now just use what I've linked to.

once you've installed and ran it, restart the system in normal mode (not safe mode) and attempt inputting a disk.
if same error occurs, You can for now download the drivers for sky broadband online...

Find the model number of the router that comes with your broadband (usually netgear) and search online for the drivers.

Also you say DVD's work in this drive, have you actually tried any other data disks? it might actually be the disk you are trying to insert, try other data disks.

Talking about fixing things, is there anybody that can fix laptops? I'm talking being able to get and fix screens to laptops?

Rather see if a Blue can do it for me, than any one else.

It's for a Medion Akoya p6613 and the screen model is : LTN160ATO1.

Cheers, if any Blues can help?

It's pretty easy to do yourself Bud.

Might find it cheaper elsewhere, checked Accupart but they wanted over £300 for it.

Check Youtube and search: Install laptop screen.

Takes a few mins, all you need is a screwdriver.

When I power up my laptop it powers but the screen just stays blank?

Any ideas blues?

Blank laptop screen....

Try taking the battery out, unplug from mains and hold power button down for 15 seconds.

Usually sorts my shitter of a laptop out (have same recurring problem)
