Looking for somewhere nice to go with our lass in a few weeks. Want a town or village with a few nice pubs, nice walks and a decent restaurant.

Has anybody got any ideas please?

Bakewell is OK. Nice town, lots of decent pubs and a few restaurants and hotels with good grub.

Caudwell's Mill at Rowsley, a few miles down the A6 is a nice cafe too.

It's where I live.

Bakewell - Ok for a visit, but a bit of a dump as regards eating and too much of a town really

Buxton- see above plus

Castleton is nice, but tends to get very busy.

Eyam is worth a look as is Ashford in-the -water (near bakewell)

For walking and a few good pubs, plus some decent food, I'd go for Baslow ( near Chatsworth and a bit less touristy than many other places) The cavendish is very pricey, but even if you don't stay there, have a cream tea in the conservatory. It's olde worlde class.

Matlock Bath/Matlock was good. Can recommend Tansley which is just outside Matlock.Lots of good walks,2 decent pubs(one is just a fine dining restaurant now) but the other is a decent pub with good beer, very good food and i think is a B&B as well called The Tavern at Tansley. We had a great time there a couple of months ago.Landlord is a right laugh.

Edale is nice, only got two pubs but the nags head is a quality boozer with excellent grub and connect four, trivial pursuits etc.Its got two or three campsites and guesthouses with information centre for walks etc. Also you can get a train direct from piccadilly, and is close to castleton on foot or in car aswell as the caverns, treak cliff, blue john etc.
