Pedro Porro

I think Rodri - Nunes - Foden would be a great midfield. But Porto and Semenyo would be a terrible right side. Khusanov and Nunes would constantly have to cover them.

I can see both getting plenty of game time. Porro appears to be better creatively and a better crosser while Nunes is much better in duels and ariel duels. Porro will probably be favoured against low block teams and Nunes in the more physical games against the likes of Arsenal or Brentford I would have thought.
Maybe but I don't think it easy to switch teams around for tactical reasons on an ongoing basis. I always believe great teams have a consistent starting eleven but with a planned policy of rotation with players who are good enough to retain a guaranteed level of performance.

Put Foden and Nunes in midfield? Are you genuinely blind or just living in the past? Foden has been absolute garbage for the last two years.

As for Nunes, he has zero qualities to play in the center as he lacks the passing range, he doesn't have the brains for it, and he has no real strengths in a crowded midfield. That setup would get absolutely slaughtered in minutes. Nunes is only world-class at RB. Moving him to the middle just to accommodate a useless, out-of-form Foden is pure delusion.

Grim? Id swap anyone for Savinho from spurs. I'd even take Glen Hoddle as he is now.
It’s grim that we are going to waste £50 mill on a back up RB who isn’t as good as Nunes and will therefore not challenge him for his position. Why not just promote from EDS and spend bigger elsewhere

Can we have a fulback that can actually defend.....

thats where wes should start and Porro is just a worse version of Cancello with just as a poor attitude
We always do this, we try and will probably buy Anderson then go and spoil it with a buy like this. We did exactly the same with Phillips

Can understand that, but Nunes played over 4,000 minutes last season, which is simply unsustainable, and while Khusanov and Lewis could deputise, each has his weaknesses.

In recent years, our entire right-hand side has often been held together by Bernardo Silva, whose selflessness and intelligence has plugged gaps and covered for others’ deficiencies. It therefore makes sense to strengthen that side now before his absence is felt even more keenly.
Have you seen Porro defending? Therein lies his weakness. £50m plus which I think we can better spend elsewhere. And if I was going for a right back i personally prefer Munoz

I have, and those who watch him weekly also tell me they would be loathed to lose him.

Not sure if the link works, but the video therein shows a level-headed guy, surrounded by a loving family, who is overjoyed that his hard work will see him travel to the World Cup.

If he is such a hopeless defender, someone had better alert de la Fluente, who was a fullback himself if I recall.

Seems an odd one unless Spurs have suggested a swap deal.

Ultimately we've had him on our books before and deemed him not good enough. Not sure he has done enough to persuade me we made a mistake.

Decent, but not worth the valuation. Not an upgrade on Nunes based on last 12 months.

He wasn’t good enough when we had him from 19-22, nor when Spurs took him on loan in January ‘23, since we still had Walker, Akanji, Stones, and Lewis covering. None of them are good enough for us now, but Porro has improved and forced his way into the Spanish national squad. He’d be a solid addition.

I never used the words “hopeless defender”, you did. My view is that he is a decent defender but very inferior to Nunes, in my opinion

If this is the sort of player Maresca is after then this is the start of our demise, he’ll be going back looking at Leicester players next

Yep. When Pep took over he spent £50m on Kyle Walker who was the league’s and England’s best right back. Ready to come in and immediately make us better.

Maresca paying the same amount for Porro would be a concerning reflection.

The club were after that Cambiasso fella at Juve last summer. Similar profile to Porro. It's clearly the profile of right back the club want. Not just Maresca.

True, apologies.

I think they've each got strengths and weaknesses. Nunes has done really well and improved greatly, but I still think he's susceptible to raw pace, and we can only spread Khusanov so far. I can therefore see the merits of having both Nunes and Porro. Ultimately, the next time we face PSG, Real Madrid, Barcelona, or Atletico Madrid in spring, I want to have players at their optimal and be able to blunt their threats.

Can't think of many players I'd want to sign less than Porro. Guy is simply poor. Nowhere near Nunes level if we're being honest. Maybe more useful against low blocks but has to be better options elsewhere.

I assume interest stems from his past with Girona and the Spurs wanting some of our players. Hopefully nothing in it.

We used to have great competition for places. Bringing this back is not a bad thing what so ever.

Walker & Danilo to Walker & Cancelo to Walker & Lewis to Nunes & Lewis.

Now I rate Nunes is back him to still be first choice but would be good to have cover that can push him.

I also rate Khusanov, he will be an incredible player in fact he already is but he’s going to get even better. But he’s not a right back, just because he’s quick doesn’t make him one.

See yourself to the door

He looks like Steve O from Jackass.

As long as he doesn't play like one then it could be a decent buy.
