I'm genuinely interested, if he wins the league this year and beats Kiev, what will your opinions be?
I think these two things are highly possible.
So that would be a double, 2nd and a 2nd PL with a very good showing in the CL in 3 seasons. That's after taking over after Mancini ad made a bit of a mess after his own fine work mind. Dealing with the FFP debacle. He's seen the back of Mourinho, some say the best coach in the World in just over 2 years. Win this league or not, I think we will he's still outperformed Jose Mourinho and will leave a very happy and balanced squad.
If Pellegrini does win the league this year, that will make Pep's job very hard. Anything but three titles in three years will be a step down from Pellegrini. Results wise anyway.
Don't get me wrong, there's plenty Pellegrini does that leaves us all scratching our heads but in general his results, his win percentage speak for themselves.
I just think that considering he won a double in his first year. Finished second in his 2nd season and in his 3rd season is very healthy in all 4 competitions and very well placed for the league so he deserves our support till the end of the season. Especially as every man and his dog knows he's off.
On point as fuck, as have your previous posts in the thread have been. If there was a Bluemoon Awards ceremony, I'd be nominating you for 'Best Pellers Defender' haha. I hate to draw up fake battlelines, as one doesn't have to 'for' or 'against' Pellegrini, but I'm only pissing about :)
Personally - and it is a preference thing - I don't like Pellegrini's overall tactical philosophy, defensively speaking. I won't go into detail as this topic has been driven into the ground, but I'm sure you understand his weaknesses, as you clearly know your stuff. But I just think that the consistently high individual errors that come from our defence is a symptom of the tactics and philosophy. It is an extremely difficult way to defend** Needlessly difficult, in my humble opinion. When it works, the rewards are clear, and as you say, our win percentage and chances conceded speak for themselves. But I don't think it's unfair to counter that argument with the fact that our squad is miles better than most in the league, and the few chances we concede are high-percentage chances because of the quality in which our enemy arrives in our box (due to our lack of cohesion when something goes wrong.)
**Just as a vague example; Lescott looked world class in Mancini's system. He'd be fucked under Pellers. His attributes are different, yes, but overall, the rear-guard is a less nervy place to be under Mancini, for various reasons, most notably protection. Some ways of defending are easier than others. And I believe that you can achieve a better balance than Pellegrini has masterminded, without sacrificing beautiful football.
I'm waiting until January is over before I make a long prediction post about how I think our season will finish etc, but I'll go ahead and say right now; I think we're going to win the league. And if we do, then his tenure has been an unarguable success. (Perhaps he'll get his due credit in City history... I doubt it, but perhaps.) If and when Pep comes in, it's going to be difficult, results-wise. And it will be interesting to see how our fanbase reacts when the greatest active manager in the world shows that he's human aswell. (which he's done on numerous occassions already, just to put it out there.)
