If we buy a centre back it will be for the longer term than this season, most likely the centre back we want is firstly probably not available until the summer and secondly even if he is will probably be cup tied for the Barca game. I may be wrong and we will get somebody now, but whatever I trust the management to make the right decision for the long term and not for the next 25 games only.

I think we are in a great position where we don't need to go to clubs cap in hand.

We know who we want, we don't need them now but it woudl be nice. IN the summer we will have more prize money anyway, so we sit back and add pressure to the selling clubs, wait until the last day or two I bet and see if the mask slips with clubs for any of our targets. If not, we start discussing with players in May, before the world cup and hopefully as we are winning lots of silverware and looking very attractive as a club.

The only thing that could throw a spanner in the works is the World Cup, with players unavailable to discuss with us and having less time to recover and be incorporated int our team before the new season starts. But with players of the best quality that should not matter, as Fellaini has demonstrated over at the swamp.

However I would bet a pound to a penny that all our summer targets have been identified and that they will be signing on the dotted line as soon as possible come the spring, just like last year and as far as targets and signings I am 100% behind the new regime.

That's how Txiki worked in Barcelona. Each December and January there were meetings between manager (coach) and his staff with DoF and appropriate board members where transfer targets for the summer were discussed and (at the end) agreed upon. If this MO is repeated at City, they already know who they are getting after in the summer (and may already have started some preliminary talks and testing of the waters).
