Penalty Taker

Who should take penalties if Haaland is not on the pitch?

Pretty sure that the penalty taker for next season has probably already been decided! As soon as it was awarded, I dreaded seeing Mahrez stepping up as it took me back to that fateful day at Anfield I feel that he is not the right player for such a pressurised situation and think in the absence of Gundogan, Kev should have taken it. Having just watched it again, the save wasn’t overly difficult.

Simple as the stats for me:

Gundogan - 13/15 (87%)
De Bruyne - 9/11 (82%)
Mahrez - 20/28 (71%)
Sterling - 4/8 (50%)
Jesus - 5/12 (41%)

Gundogan this season, always looks the most composed taking them and has the stats to back it up.
Next season of course Haaland with 24/26 (92%) so far.
13/15 is not the same as 9/11?

In fairness other then that one at clanfield he hasn’t missed many, I did actually have a feeling he would miss it today let’s hope we don’t need one next Sunday to win the title. I think we may know who the penalty taker will be next season though..

Mahrez hit the penalty well enough, unfortunately it was one of those at the right height for Fabianski to save a foot higher or lower then it's a goal.
All our current takers strike the ball well enough but accuracy appears to be the problem unlike a few years ago when Toure, Ballotelli, Tevez and Milner could all tuck a good penalty away.

If the keeper takes the penalty, he absolutely has to score. Anything else and we risk the opposition breaking on us while our keeper's at the wrong end of the pitch.
Ederson’s inspiration is retired Brazilian keeper Rogério Ceni who scored over 100 goals over his career for his team São Paulo taking penalties and free kicks. I’m pretty sure he practices penalties
