People who get married....

Marriage is an outdated institution. If one in two really do end in divorce then it's utterly pointless. You may as well spend the equivalent money together for as long as it lasts.

We're currently looking at venues etc for having our wedding breakfast at and when you see the prices you realise why weddings are so much, we wanted a low key wedding for around 40 day guests and about another 40 at night and thought we would piss the whole day for 5k but no, most places want anywhere between 40-80 quid per head for a meal and a few drinks, plus maybe 1-2k for venue, 500 for church, 1k for dress, another 700 for bridesmaids dresses and suit hire etc, thats without a cake, car, dj for night, flowers, rings etc etc

I'm starting to wish I hadn't asked now!

Ring the venue where you're having the sit down meal and don't tell them it's a wedding and i bet you it will be half the price. same for the evening do.

Nonsense. I got my failure out of the way first so I can enjoy a long and fruitful relationship with the current beautiful Mrs This! -

And spend a fortune on a fancy wedding, go on a £10,000 + honeymoon to the far flung corner of the world, and end up getting divorced a year of so after...

Ever happened to anyone you know?

My niece had a really fancy wedding last month that cost well over 30k. Instead of a pressie they wanted cash for their month in Thailand.
I'd be surprised if they last 12 months of marriage.

Ah shit this reminds me of myself, just not the divorced bit. I'm so unhappy right now but can't break my wife's heart like that. Also got a daughter and another one on the way so guess I'm stuck lol.

I got married abroad.
2 weeks all inclusive in the carrabean 2k, £500 on top of holiday price, for photographer, a guy filmed it also, cake champagne etc, ride on a horse drawn cart driven by a midget (didn't specifically request that btw) round the island resort. Parents and in-laws paid for themselves.
Had a reception when we got back for friends + rest of family, 1.5k. We did it for under 5k .
still married. Want to go renew our vows at the same place for our 10th anniversary in a couple of years time
We got married at Paphos Town Hall in Cyprus, about £150, 2 weeks in Apts about £500, bargain

This fills me with dread. Mine is costing 30k plus. I have 1 mate I have not seen for a year. 3 kids and my dad. That's it.

I could give them all 6k each and it will be cheaper. She has booked an opera singer, harpist, string quartet, children's entertainer, photo booth, casino and bought a croquet set for the lawn. She has a dj and a band at night and an ice sculpture for the table layout plan.

She is seriously thinking about flying by helicopter from Barton to cheshire while her guests go on the coach so we are there to greet them!

I am a scruffy bastad, hate having my photo taken, don't like people and will not dance at all.

Dreading it. And yes it will almost certainly end in divorce.
