Plenty doubting him earlier in this thread, including myself who thought it may be his last season with us.

The man is a bonafide genius and will probably go down in history as the best ever

where did he pull this current system from in the midst of a condensed season with no time to work on anything ?

he first fixed the defence and made us hard to beat then looked at improving us on the ball

Cancelo’s position is something we have never seen in football, we’re used to the inverted full backs but this guy is playing as a number 8 in the half spaces as well as getting behind the ball when defending to form a back 4

the front six are all interchangeable and in possession we are playing a 3133 system, which again is something we haven’t seen before

yesterday against west brom we were back to our best , quick passing, runs in behind, pressing from the front in their own box , everyone wanting to get on the ball and looking forward

with the scum just losing we must be huge favourites to get the title back, get a world class striker next season and we could become unstoppable

It’s not much more than a month since every lazy pundit and quite a few of our fans were parroting “City have been worked out”.

so what did the beautiful bald genius do? He reinvented us again, with a changed system which has them all bamboozled. Everything is a tweak rather than a radical change, but as a whole it’s transformed us and the rest can’t keep up: 4 at the back but then it stretches to 3 when we have the ball and we now have two holding midfielders. A false 9 system where as soon as the false 9 drops someone else pops in. And someone else drops in to cover that player. They are moving all over the place and creating both confusion and big overloads in the last third.

Go and work that one out, mere mortals. Actually don’t bother. He will just do it again.

When he is gone we will all realise what a privilege it has been to witness a giant of the game build, manage and motivate his teams. He’s the best I’ve ever known.

He's won nothing yet this season but he's already proved a lot of people wrong.

As he did in his first season at City, he has slowly but surely worked out how best to use his resources.

He's continued to stay true to his jeu de possession approach but, as you point out, tweak things. He only needed to tweak because there was never that much wrong.

Yesterday, he indulged his love of midfield players almost to the max and what we got in the first half was passing and movement on an altogether different level.

Now it's up to the players to maintain their belief, not get over confident and keep executing Pep's plans.

He got absolutely roundly hammered for approaching those early games cautiously, with the 4231, and seeming to prefer not to lose the biggest games and to keep the players as fresh as he could. Now the rest are imploding and we are rising like a Phoenix and it might just be that that little bedding-in period; where the defence gelled and the midfielders found their rhythm, was where another title was won.

Agree 100% with every single word of this.

When will people learn. This man has utterly destroyed football with his genius.

We are so lucky to have him. We wont half miss him when he’s gone. Hopefully not for a good few years yet though.

Let's wait and see if he's learned in the Champions League, shall we. That remains the real test.

Getting the defence sorted has been crucial. It's the foundation to success in any team but here it has to my mind helped to boost self-belief and confidence for the whole team.
