Agree with that. The only midfielder we have who is capable of shuttling up and down the pitch like that is Foden, but he’s also more likely to give the ball away than the others who were on, which would then put increased pressure on the others as they would all have to chase back more.

Looking beyond this season, it’s one of the things we arguably need to address: the lack of pace in midfield. That caught us out last year in Madrid and did for us in their goal last night.

I’d also like to see us learn another lesson from Madrid and sign/develop midfielders so that they can occasionally slot in at fullback. We seem to work the other way round and coach fullbacks and central defenders to slot into midfield, or have central defenders operate as fullbacks, but we could maybe try it the other way round.

Well, to be fair, we in some ways started the trend of coaching midfielders to play fullback. ;-)

True, but I suppose that’s part of the problem with converting the other way. Genuine midfielders will always consider themselves ‘too good‘ to play fullback on a permanent basis, so while they might be comfortable deputising, they’ll likely be tempted elsewhere.

I so wish we had two more players in this squad, ideally a left-footed and right-footed version of Fernandinho in his pomp, who could drop into the fullback positions or add pace, energy, and bite in the midfield when required. Have to get A.I. onto it.

Some of you idealize Real Madrid.


Real Madrid, first of all, is a "state club".

They are also a state club. And longer and bigger state club than City.

They had the support of a military dictatorship until 40 years ago. After, they stay in power in democratic mode. Same surnames, sames families who privilege Real Madrid with political favors that translate into economic resources.
Second, last year City was better than Real Madrid, and City lost due to individual mistakes that Pep can't control.

Number 3: subs? Come on. Pep did a excellent work.

Foden can play or not, and the team can works. You can trust in Ake, in Rico, in Palmer, in Ortega... You can.

Can you trust in Vallejo Lunin Ceballos Cañizares Jr Mariano? No. They are players level Leeds.

They won in Madrid? No.

Will they win in Manchester? No. And if you know about football you know that.

You cant say bad words about Pep this year. He is driving the team amazing.
