Pep Guardiola - 2025/26

He looks so happy, so relaxed, and so motivated it's wild. The best thing is, there's still so much this team can improve and Pep's relentless pursuit of perfection will get them there.

Tactically he's had Slott's pants down, and more importantly, I think he's found a system which will win him big games this season. Nothing's new in football, but the two nominal wingers playing super narrow, and letting Nunes and especially NOR have the entire wing, is really becoming a problem for opposition teams.

The Doku/NOR side of the pitch looks dare I say it, formidable.
When Doku is “on one”, like yesterday, he’s lethal. Said before but if we can get the right tune out of Cherki and Savio on the right then we are cooking on gas.

Still a bit shaky at the back, none of our central defenders are looking awesome, but they are all having decent games from time to time so it’s certainly not a panic, especially so with The Don behind them.

Josko keeps passing to the opposition which keeps giving me anxiety. Soon as he finds his form/rhythm we'll be much better. Quietly, I think Ruben is locating his best form again. And yeah, Gigi makes such a huge difference.

On Doku, I think NOR's presence is helping him. The engine on Nico is insane. He covers so much ground.

Pep’s tactic of letting Konate have the ball was the foundation to this result. He is weak on the ball and they could not build anything. Second half they dropped Gravenberch back to pick up these balls and got more into it, however the damage was done. Well done Pep!

Also think it shows huge faith in the players to basically tell them to go man to man and press from the front.

Yep. A brand new system which is bringing the best out of them all. I'm going to call it 2-2-5-1 but it's more complex than that. What's even more unbelievable, if you'd told me at the start of the season we'd have been battering Liverpool WITHOUT Rodri, Stones, Alt Nouri, Reinders and Khusanov I would have laughed.

And the way he's allowed the likes of O Reilly, Gonzalez, Doku and Nunez to play themselves into form. Incredible management from the best in the business.

The false system :)

False wingers, false fullbacks, false No 10. The traditional distinctions are gone.

Doku was 'on two' in the 2nd half, that didn't stop him. He was great in other big games this season. Our MOTM vs both Arsenal and Liverpool.

Also, Dias has been great recently. That's why Pep plays him over Stones. Our record with Dias and Gvardiol at CB has been great since February. Can you tell the last game we lost with them both at CB?

Josko isn't at his best due to being overplayed last season. But he will get there.

He’s got his wife back, got a new coaching team around him who seem to all be getting on well and doing a good job, got many of his star players back fit and playing well, got the new players settling in, got both the senior and new players gelling well and reacting to and enacting his tactics as he wants them (most of the time), we’re getting some good results, full back areas were a concern and he’s got two adapted midfielders looking like the best left and right back combination in the league… Kompany has signed a contract until 2029 at Bayern and I reckon Pep thinks he’s here at City for a good few years yet and feels settled and happy with a new lease of life in the job with all the newness and freshness around it all.

Think they're still divorcing.

Where did you read that?

Pep’s Rubic Cube has been clicking away over the last few months and the colours have accelerated into their correct position. It has been amazing to see so far.

Donna, what a difference the guy has made. I was foolish enough to believe we had enough in James but happy that I was wrong. He gives such confidence.

NOR and Nunes. Now as good as any full back combination in the PL and both starters in our strongest team.

Nico - the improvements in his performances have been amazing.

Phil - back to his very best + dropping deeper and running midfield from the middle.

Bernie- pretty much back to his best. No longer referred to as Unc. He runs his heart out and makes us tick

Erl and Jeremy. Simply the best at what they do and both unplayable in increasing number of games.

Still some work in progress with Cherki, Marmoush, Reijnders, Sav and I would like to see Khus reintroduced at some point. Rodri’s fitness clearly. When it’s done it will be glorious.

Pep is proving all the doubters wrong. Contrast what he is doing with Slott who is taking Liverpool backwards despite their enormous investment. There is much more to being an elite manager over 1000 games than spending money.

Thanks mate. Shame.

Congrats, Pep. 1,000 matches and 700 hundred odd wins is out of this world.

Who ever would have believed 10 years ago that he’d devote the lion’s share of his career to lil old Citeh? And shun the Catalan beaches for the banks of the Mcr Ship Canal? And put us firmly on the world’s top table?

I confess to having doubts last year that he’d turn us round - while still being appreciative of everything that had come before. There’s every sign now that we’re back on track, whether we win anything or not this year.

But I think we will.

We are a work in progress. We'll have some poor games. The outcome of the rebuild will get clearer in several months. If we are within 4 pts off the top come February, we are likely to win.

My expectation is that in the spring we'll play better than we did against Dortmund and Liverpool.
