To be fair Barcelona away from the touristy areas is pretty bad and crime ridden so he could be going by that in comparison. he's probably well aware things like this will happen and there's no sense locking himself away

I went there on my way to Madrid this year and there were old ladies 60/70 plus walking their dogs/sat in parks gone 11/12 at night. Outside Placa Reial/Ramblas area it seems pretty safe.
