Pep: I would have been sacked at Barca or Bayern.

Won't make a difference the majority of the media will view it,and take it as him saying we are a small club, which as shown there he has said nothing of the sort,no point the majority of them reporting it correctly when you can bash city instead..
To be fair it won't make a difference to some on here.

Take what he said in full and dont just cherry pick because when you do that you also glean that it means we are also a big club happy to give him the time he needs.

Its a compliment to us and our owner and a bit of a dig at his past clubs.

I think that the subtext is that he actually wants City to become the sort of club that will not accept a trophyless season from a manager.

I'm sure that he discussed targets for the club when he joined and my guess is that he was told that it wasn't essential to win a trophy this season providing he put in place the building blocks for future success. Success at a level that most us probably do not currently aspire to. The sort of level where a trophyless season is unacceptable in all but the most exceptional circumstances.

I really want him to be amazing and give us the success I have always dreamed of since I was a little boy at Maine Road. I hope the grown ups back him to the hilt and let him shape the team how HE wants it to be, I think he's got the measure of this league now, he can see the blatant corruption that is rife throughout FA, let's go forth next year and DESTROY those who cross our path. No prisoners.
The CITY is BLUE!!!!

Just read this and tbh, i read it, nodded in agreement with his desire to do better and move on. Not to sure what he said was bad, i took it as good he is determined to improve next year. He probably would have been sacked at those clubs, they have different dynamics to us, indeed they have special demands that no other club has, and currently have won the CL a few times and have always been sniffing around it should they not win it. This has set them up to be trigger happy with the sacking stick just to stand still.

Did we lose that next game he brought Bravo back and played AK at CB?
Not sure of the relevance? Would you like to bet 100 quid on a 100/1 shot and if you win I will give you double your money? No? But if you win doesn't that make it the right decision? No it doesn't. Equally just cos we won doesn't necessarily make it the right decision. And the point still stands - what actually has he learnt?

Let the press make something out of this, not us. When compared with Barca and Bayern of course we are going to come up short.
Three years down the line then let's see where we are.

I didn't like the fact that he said "at a big club, I would have been gone"
I hope it's just a slip of the tongue, but it seemed to me he was inferring that we aren't a big club? !
Bugs me too that. How are we supposed to change the mentality of the club when we don't refer to ourselves as a big club. Media folk constantly refer to Chelsea as a "Big club". If they are referred as that, then so should we.

If Pep thought we were a small club he wouldn't have taken the job would he?

It's obvious he thinks he can win league titles and the Champions league here otherwise he would not have taken the job

Compiling my list of people who will be eating their hats this time next year.
You two are at the top.

Why should I be angry if Pep manages to deliver? I'll be absolutely delighted if he does succeed.
My only problem is I expected him to be much better than he has been. Indeed his lack of pragmatism and the failure to deploy tactics that take away opponents best offensive weapons has been a real eye opener. (Only once has he been pragmatic Barca @ Home)
I'm sure we will improve when we get a decent Keeper, some top quality fullbacks and one if not two quality DMs.
But to pretend that this season has been remotely good by Pep is laughable.
Quite simply, Pep needs to be more pragmatic in the Premier League and in Europe. If he isn't, he will not deliver.

good of him to own up it would be ridiculous for us to sack him after one season. if anything I think his mistakes this year will be beneficial to us next year. Barca Bayern had nothing like the dross we have in their squad. I blame txixi for now having the players in place for him to do a lot better. its the reason I get angry at him for rotating, we simply do not have the players to rotate with. we can in reality can't even raise an 11 to challenge let alone rotate. next season we are seriously going to fly.

Good post Bill.

Regarding rotation,it does my head in too.....but perhaps its more from requirement than choice?

Bill is finally back.

Thank fuck for that ;-)

Talkshite were all over this, this morning. Have a City gone backwards under Pep?

The thing that annoys me is, if we sacked Pep Guardiola then the phone in topic would be, "Manchester City sack the best coach in the world after one season, are they trigger happy owners and who would touch them after this?" Don't rise to it, just don't....

That's what's worrying me. Will he learn the lessons of this season?

There's two possible scenarios:

Either he does know it's not good enough, which happens to be the case

Or he doesn't know and thinks everything is fine

Which is more worrying to you?

I don't think it's worrying at all what he's said, I expected a statement to signal our intent to improve.
