Pep to leave at the end of the season

Serious question.

Can we merge this and the Maresca threads? They are literally discussing the same things and snippets across two different threads. Three, is you include the trophy parade one, but at least we can condense these two into one for ease, there is no difference between them to merit two imo.

I’ll try and find it again. The video was either on Facebook or Instagram.

I’ve been scrolling through both of them this morning looking at City videos of yesterday.

It might be the pre match video, but I’m not sure?
I've seen the pre-match ones. If it is those, I agree, been saying it since they dropped yesterday.

If Alonso was nailed on for Liverpool, that was understandable, but why did the club prioritize Maresca over him ?

Personal opinion is that it's hard to make plans when you dont know if Pep's staying or not. Maresca's probably happy to wait, Alonso obviously isnt. At least with Maresca it seems that if Pep springs an exit on us then Maresca will step in almost immediately.

In what way did he ‘fail’ at Chelsea?

In what way has he not failed with the squad he was provided? Chelsea have great young players and are more than capable of playing well. His performances were all over the place and it culminated when he had 1 win in 7 games.

He was handed the youngest and most promising squad, and instead of building it, he ended up falling out with his board.

To be honest I’ve not been in those board discussions so wouldn’t know.

From Martin Samuel today.

'Guardiola insists we are seeing things that are not there. He gave nothing away, but is adamant he will see out his contract which expires at the end of next season, and is quite affronted that his word is so regularly doubted'.
Just had the misfortune to watch Sunday Supplement with the rag prick that is Mark Ogden, who is adamant, along with the other two clowns that Pep is 'obviously' going in two games time, despite him saying otherwise just yesterday. He also blamed City and Pep for the cup final, becoming just another game and he blamed him for managers not wearing suits on cup final day anymore. City ruining football since 2008.

His fitness coach has been with him since Barcelona.

That he is leaving gives me doubts Pep is staying.
He's sixty and wants to retire same as Tixi last year who was his best friend don't forget, so if he was going to go would it not have been at the end of last season.

Yeah of course it is but he seemed a natural successor, no one can be under any illusion it wont be difficult once he does leave.
Why would it be difficult, may not win as much as Pep because that isn’t normal, but the squad he’ll leave the trophy winning experience another year of his coaching, a well run club behind the next manager. No reason the next man won’t have all he needs for it not to be difficult. Unless some fans fail to understand what normal success looks like.

I still think he leaves if we do the domestic treble, and sticks for another year if Arsenal holds on

That's always been my take as well. He's a total maverick and won't be a surprise if he steps away, but if we don't win the league (sadly looking that way), part of me just can't see him stepping away on those terms. With the team we have now and some tweaks in summer, a title next season is very doable. If he wants to...

It's not about not trusting him. Ahead of a cup final he's asked if hes staying and he says yes. He isn't going to give any negative soundbites to the media by acting unsure or saying no right before a huge game as it could derail the team. The fact Guehi can't say with certainty shows he hasn't emphatically told the team he's staying.

He is also the type that wouldn't answer it at all. He would say 'only thinking about the game' or something else along those lines, or just refuse to answer. He didn't have to say 'yes'. So I take his yes as honest, at this point.

Agree about Guehi's response.

Another consideration.

The club have almost always announced departures early enough, ahead of time, and avoided speculation.

Stones, Bernardo. The fitness coach, the GK coach, various backroom staff. Aguero, Silva, Zabba, Vince, Kev.. Txiki, Pellegini. Gundo was the only one that stretched out, but he also left it late.

If Pep was indeed leaving, it bucks the trend imo. Specially with him actually stating he isn't.

I personally think he has done enough to have put it to bed. The fact the media don't want to leave it in bed is another thing, it's not his nor the club's role to continuously have to play speculation whack-a-mole.
I get that mate, but I still can’t forget the titbit from @Ric as well, but as I said earlier at least we only have maximum of a week to be sure either way.

What do you think will happen within a week just out of interest.

I agree btw, if he is leaving, ahead of the villa game will be the time to announce it.

If he isn't though, I can genuinely see nothing being said, and we carry on as usual. The issue is, the speculation has created this expectation of an announcement either way.

Suppose I just think he would never leave in a close season without a fitting farewell, so IF he’s going it’ll be announced probably Weds so everyone can get there for Sunday.

I agree to some extent but we are losing some big players this summer, Silva, Stones potentially Rodri then on top of that Pep as well? Its a monumental hit if it happens.

Agree, said as much on 1st page.

So most likely just Silva and Stones,Stones has hardly played.Bernardo will be missed but we’ll be fine, looking forward to next season already
