Pep to leave at the end of the season

I understand your point, but hasn't the media furore happened since his first initial contract was talked about?

I'm pretty sure the media trot out the "he's leaving" line, every year since. A bit like the "115" every year.

But, even a broken clock is right at some point, and you will have the "I told you so" merchants blowing their trumpets...

Yeah it has, that's true. Like I say I dont know what's right, I think some managers end up being lame ducks if everyone knows they're going at the end of the season, but I think it would probably galvanise our guys instead tbh. They'd be desperate to win stuff for him.

I think he could be, I'm not sure.

Reason being that the amount of questions about him leaving and speculation about who next etc, that would come in the last year of this Pep contract would be insane and potentially distracting for the squad.

He's got a really good relationship with the owners etc, so if he wanted to leave a year early then I'm sure they'd let him. Which makes that final year a bit optional almost.

Like I said I've no idea, but I just wouldn't rule it out.
One thing I would be happy to bet on, is that he wouldn't leave early just to avoid speculation in his final year.

We have had and rode that speculation at least 3 times now, 4 including this round.

Pep and the club seem to know how to deal with it.

Which usually results in a new extension. Long live the speculation ;)

Lorenzo Bueanaventura leaving is the big one, thats Peps second in command if you go by his book and how long that man has been with him, I want Pep to stay but I just find it hard to believe he'd let his closest backroom staff leave and bring someone new in for just a year.

Lorenzo has been with him his whole career.

I think that’s true as well. Normally I would be against a Manager still deciding what he pleases keeping everyone around uncertain.
But It’s Pep and he gets to do whatever he wants to do.

In light of that he is in/ he is out conundrum we become a bit meh prospect for Alonso or Enrique. They would prefer clear cut answers and won’t wait for any club. Hence Chelsea getting Alonso and we making Maresca wait until the great man decide what he wants.
The club and Pep will already know with absolute certainty whether he’s staying or going.

Might not end up being for just one year though.

I don't, he either can't keep a straight face when he says it or talks in riddles-read the room.
I wouldn't expect him to say he was leaving if he was as we don't need the distraction.
He cant keep a straight face because he's sick of answering inane questions from numpty journos. Had Pep not said he has another year here to do i could understand your and other blues concern, but relax, he'll be here another season i think.

Up until a couple of days ago I would have agreed with you and I was sure he was staying. But his recent comments on the situation where he can either barely keep a straight face or he talks in riddles have convinced me he is going.

Likewise he doesn’t need to tell the cunts he is staying either. He has had ten fucking years of the cunts taking the piss out of him, he is more than entitled to get his own back. My personal view is that he is 70% to 80% staying, and the final 20% to 30% is to ensure at the end of the season that the players are still fighting for him, something he has alluded to a few times over the years. Unless he has told you any different that’s the logic I am sticking to

I am relaxed but I no longer think he will be, not long to find certainty anyway.

What riddles?

All points to pep leaving now unfortunately.

Hope im wrong but the fact they are even having a parade for a domestic cup double and then the co op element to me suggests it’s big

Unless he signs another contract extension live
Why can’t it be the latter as opposed to the former? My money is on staying plus another two year extension

I do wonder and it's something I can't get out of my head if his look-a-like is going to come in as number 2 to Pep for a season before he sails into the sunset.

People keep saying why would Maresca come to sit behind Pep?

It's a job like no other job here, number 2 is better than no job especially at City and as long as he's happy we'll not do a James Trafford on him I feel he'd be happy to have a season handover.

I understand and even applaud his reasons for not saying he is going (if he is).

Okay, but it's reported that Guardiola is very upfront with who he signs with; expectations, targets, desired outcome and whether he still has it in him. By all accounts, Guardiola is buzzing. A young competitive team, unexpectedly in the hunt and winning trophies already? I'd like to think I see the glint in his eye that he's close to an almost as perfect a team for the Prem that he could design.

The absolute nonsense in the way the hierarchy of the preceding clubs were run and the media dogs is why he, ultimately, left. The fact he's stayed here 10 years means both parties have trust in each other.

And, yes, why wouldn't City wait on Guardiola who's STILL within his contract? He'll tell the owners when he's ready and doesn't owe that information to anyone else.

Then, and only then, will the club make plans.
That’s all well and good but the thing for me is that he’s yet to just say he’s staying. He’s been quite weird about it. Then again, he is a weird man.
