Pep to leave at the end of the season

It will be true but I don't appreciate the timing. I am not reading any of their news stories and praise. It's entirely empty. If I were Pep, there would be no post-match press conference tonight.

Don't talk daft. Hundreds of people at the club will have known, any one of them could have leaked it. What exactly are they supposed to do? You can't keep it secret from everybody forever, arrangements have to be made for the changeover, plans for the announcement such as a pre-recorded video perhaps, programme notes on the final day and so on. That's not even scratching the surface.
part of the comms strategy round this must have been what to do in the event of a leak. We now know what that strategy was - do nothing.

BBC on Maresca

The Italian manager, who won the Club World Cup and Conference League while securing Champions League qualification during his only full season at Stamford Bridge, previously worked at City.

He was an assistant to Guardiola during City's treble-winning 2022-23 campaign and played a key role in the club's academy prior to joining the first team.

It's his experience with our academy that maybe excites me the most.

He has been getting asked questions for weeks now mate? Maybe i`m more pissed off it was Oliver Fucking Holt who broke it but it goes against the normally top class professional way we do things?
Pep was trying to keep a lid on this in his pre-match press conference but the press have ignored Pep's wish and chose the worst possible time for City to run the story.

I'm more concerned about where he goes next. If we're going to be pushing for the CL I wouldn't want to come up against any team he's in charge of.

And as unlikely as it may seem at this moment, I'm dreading him signing for another PL club at some point in the future. You never know in football, if the job and salary are big enough...

I wouldn't be worried about any of that.

Firstly, I would be surprised if he doesn't take a while off.

Secondly, he won't go to another Prem team and if he does we'll crush him.

Club doesn't really adhere to media persuasion on anything (their unwillingness to talk about 115 charges is proof of this) and I imagine they're willing to just continue at their own pace.

If its happening, the people who need to know, know.
I understand that but city usually control the narrative and this isn't doing that. Reports that Pep is furious etc. Well lets be honest everyone knew it was coming so it was inevitable this would happen. I'm quite fine with it being over, its been one hell of a blast and the greatest manager we've ever had. I can't thank him enough but I'm now also excited to see a new version of Manchester City F.C. Nothing ever lasts forever.

Maybe in another generation
When other lads have come to take our place
They'll carry on the glory of the City
Keeping City in first place...

The moment club sponsors were informed then it was bound to get out .

Oliver Holt, Chief Sports writer at the Daily Mail seemed to be the first to reveal this - he was typing a story on his laptop at the start of the Arsenal v Burnley match last night and someone from Talksport spotted it.

I don't know where he got it from though.

Absolutely. Don't know if Maresca will work or not but looking forward to seeing how we evolve.

I adore Pep and would rather he stay on but people are talking about a fall off like a we didn't start falling off couple of years ago. Dare I say, with a fully committed Pep we would have walked the league this year. Not that I think he's downed tools by any means whatsoever but his demeanor has been far, far more relaxed this season.

Regardless, he's leaving us with a fantastic young squad that any manager would be licking their lips at the prospect of working with.

I don't expect us to ever reach the same heights of breaking records season after season but those times ended after the treble season anyway and I can't wait to see how we develop.
Absolute nonsense. We didn't start falling off a couple of years ago, we had a massive season long injury list with as many as 13 players out at one point. That would be tough for any team but a team that are generally competing for the title have absolutely no chance whatsoever under those circumstances, and you can't just pop down to Tesco and buy a trolley load of new players, you just have to ride it out.

Not only that but it's near impossible to maintain the same levels season in, season out with the number of matches the players have to platy these days, any sort of drop off is natural. In short, they need a break, and if that means not being in contention for the title so be it.

Nothing wrong with Pep's commitment this season, we're rebuilding, we have a very young squad, many of whom hadn't played many matches with each other and that takes time to gel, to find the right formation. Despite that we've won both domestic cups this season and won them without needing penalties or replays in any match, the first time that has been done and there hasn't been any drop off at all, we have no right to have expected that from a team going through a rebuilding process.

Look at how the rags have done, Liverpool, Chelsea, all despite spending a lot more than we have and not having to more or less rebuild from almost scratch. Even then we've had several long term injuries again this time around. Arsenal might lift the title but even they haven't been able to break away from us. Any suggestion that we've not done as well have we could have under the circumstances we've had to work with is total bollocks in my opinion.

Just watched Inside City on the FA Cup win....Proper emotional.
Talking of emotion, it’s 4 years since we released the king Colin kit. On my Facebook memories was the clip of his family at the stadium to promote the release.

Talk about chopped onions!

So what do you do? It's only been a few hours and broke late in the day, not first thing in the morning. Get a bloody grip.

To be fair, at the start of each season there are 4 things to win. This season we have won 50% of them and an outside chance of 75% of them.

If Maresca maintains this standard, I will be happy enough!

Winning the league and FA cup isn't good enough winning either CL, or EPL in a season is.

Radio 2 news just said “the BBC understands that Enzo Maresca is about to be appointed as Man City Manager”

It’s starting to feel real.
