Pep to leave at the end of the season

What a bizarre few days? Rumours start that Pep is leaving on second rate clickbait websites a few days ago. Then the same story starts to appear in the red tops and thereafter its being reported in The Telegraph, The Independent and the BBC and then on SKY. But, nothing on the Man City website. We then draw at Bournemouth. After the match in an interview Pep indicates that he has a year of his contract to go and he will be speaking to Khaldoon in the next few days. So, what's it to be? Based on everything, I'd be shocked if Man City suddenly say that Pep has signed a contract extension, but I guess until City have posted something official on their website we will have to wait and the speculation will continue. Crazy times! Is it possible the media got ahead of themselves based on rumours rather than facts? It would not be the first time.

While I understand the hope that some have that his interview and attitude (walking off early etc.) last night means he's still undecided...I can't get behind that.

No smoke without fire as they say - and this is an engulfment of smoke, not just a little.

He's gone. Last night was a fuck you to the media to not give them what they wanted - extra headlines to cohesively use alongside Arsenal winning the league.

There's the last game of the season plus a parade plus an event at the Co-Op after it - all of which are perfect opportunities for a farewell.

He doesn’t need to sign a year’s extension to stay another year.

If that was true surely Pep would have stuck with his "I'm staying" line last night? Like it or not he is no longer saying he will Definitely be here next season.

If true City will be mightily fucked off with Maresca imo.
You’re spot on! Something I’ve been pondering since the initial leak has sparked all the Pep speculation, which has really taken off since Holt’s article on Monday. Sam Lee has been convinced that Pep is planning to leave for months, which he’s hinted at in the LMT podcast. When asked on the LMT Discord why he hasn’t published anything, he agreed with me that although the club is as tight as a drum, it didn’t apply here, and he replied he couldn’t say why.

My take is that Holt and the Mail decided to go with it, perhaps to throw City off track, he mentioned that the sponsors were informed, which seems believable, I think this is a cover-up, that aligns with how Pep spoke last night about discussing Khaldoon first before they decide. There’s absolutely no chance the club is talking to sponsors, and Khaldoon doesn’t know.

To sum up, no decision has been made, all along Pep has been truthful, he has a contract and that’s all there is to it. The rest is just rumour and speculation, fuelled by Maresca and that could very much backfire

Do you honestly think that they didn't know ?

100% the owners know, as I said, football works on about 6 months before the season ends, Great Managers like Pep don't just leave without a plan in place. Unless there is an emergency or the club sacks the manager.

Pep and City don't wash their dirty laundry in public, all this could be another controlled attack on the club by the media, knowing it would unsettle everybody

I thought last summer might be the time for him to go. Then a poor start to this season.

However, he seemed to be getting his mojo back in the last few months, 2 cups, excited about the young team he's building, and a decent end to the season league wise. Just left us too much to do after those New Year games, and the fixture scheduling screwed us as well.

Think we are a couple of top class, mobile midfielders away from getting the league back. To leave now seems odd, especially with a disruptive pre season anyway, but I guess it will stop the "will he sign an extension" talk from September onwards.

Crap in the league? We are unbeaten since January (14 games)

Sorry but im not an Arsenal fan and therefore i dont celebrate unbeaten runs when they are peppered with turgid draws against relegation fodder. Apologies but I could never.

There are some unusual comments on the forum and that's right up there.

If I take that press conference in isolation, then it sounds like Pep's future is yet to be determined or finalised yet. The press think otherwise.
There’s nothing strange about the club having a communication strategy around a piece of news this big. And it’s also highly doubtful that they would have arranged parades or booked the Co-op Live if he was still uncertain about whether he’s leaving.

:) If the leak came from Maresca, it will be the end of him at City. The one thing I can respect about Soriano is that he doesn't like leakers ....
Of course it didn’t come from Maresca. What are we doing here.

It came from a sponsor. Deary me. Tolmie has managed to turn people against Maresca already over some fairy tale he has made up. Gonna be a long summer

If he is intent on leaving, then, should he wish it, the CFG needs to find a role for him internationally.
While they may have already done so, the most likely scenario is he will want to take a long break unless he's already been offered another job at the absolute top. There will be no shortage of suitors already, that's for sure.

If this is true, it's huge, and will sew nothing but discordance between the club, fans and new manager (if he comes at all). But if Maresca is signing and it is all with everyone's blessing, this tweet is mental.

Surely saying something like this is very very risky unless the person knows Maresca and co have been playing dirty?

We've won two cups, why would that not warrant a parade?

City's media stance has always been *you speculate as much as you like, we will tell you when WE are ready". It's worked for us so far, let's the media know who is in charge and there's nothing wrong with that.

Just because some people don't have the patience to wait a few days....some proper daft comments on here.
