Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

If I was Pep, I would ask for just two signings in January which could transform the season:

1. N'Golo Kante. Probably get him for about £10 million.
2. Cole Palmer. Offer the chavs £100 million CASH up front and I reckon their money men would bite our hands off.

Job's a gud 'un. Champions again ole ole...

Without a doubt bladdered.

We have been in decline since the treble season, which after last season in winning the PL and been robbed by Madrid in the Champions league may sound crazy but for me is true.

The days of battering teams a distant dream and the chasing pack has caught up.

Time to get back to identifying and obtaining our targets quickly and paying what it takes.

We have pussyfooted too much in the transfer market for a couple of seasons.
Not sure about that. I actually think we didn't play consistently well in the treble season until around February time but we won all the games that really mattered from thereon in. What we're seeing now - apart from the 3 defeats on the bounce - are a run of iffy performances that seem to happen virtually every season under Pep, yet more often than not we still come out of it at the end of the season with one or more trophies. Even that incredible 2018/19 season when Liverpool pushed us all the way and we won the last 14 league games saw us lose 3 games out of 4 in December 2018. Then there was the 2020/21 season where we were so poor in the first few months that fans on here were openly complaining when Pep signed a contract extension in November 2020, especially as we promptly lost the next game 2-0 away to Spurs. What then eventually followed was a run of 15 consecutive league wins.

That's why I'm not writing this team, this season, and this manager off just yet. I do believe it may get worse before it starts to get better though.

We've definitely been here before around this time of year and it does feel we go through a period of pain before Xmas where everyone's starts to question whether this is the beginning of the end. We have some serious questions to answer in defense and midfield, but far too early to write Pep and this group off just yet.

I remember joking around March time in the treble season that I bet we go onto to win the lot and I have to spend the rest of my life explaining how poor that team had been.

We were shocking for huge parts of that season: drama on and off the pitch, flat for huge parts of games, conceding stupid goals, getting outrun all over the pitch. And then magically looked like we could play a hundred games without conceding.

I wonder if Peter Bosz is considered, as a kind of out of nowhere bet.

Probably the biggest Cruyff disciple in top level management currently working outside of Pep. Basically built the Ajax team Ten Hag got so much credit for and took them to Europa League final against United with an average age of about 17. Failed at Dortmund, went to Leverkusen and did a pretty good job there for a while when they were in turmoil and he had to sell his best players. Developed Havertz and Brandt specifically. Now at PSV where he has been devestating, crushing all records last year. Over 100 goals scored in the league, hardly any goals conceded. Dominated Slot's Feyenoord. Started this season magnificently. Spanked Girona yesterday. Is bald. Plays 4-3-3 with two advanced playmakers and fast tenacious wingers with a big lad up front. Eredivisie is divisive, but clearly shown what he is capable of when he has players talented enough to win

Goals. Did you say goals?
