I know “one year” has always been the touted length as each extension has approached and it’s sometimes ended up being longer than that.

However, given the current need to refresh one year seems a bit mental.

Let’s say Pep directs the refresh and decides on player x,y and z, then leaves a year later and the new kid doesn’t want/like those players?

Minimise his say round the club in terms of players /squad/ recruitment if it is one year.

These are the players you’ll be working with type thing

Why not just bring a new guy in, let him choose who he wants staying/going and avoid the situation you refer to?

because whenever it happens, a new manager is going to inherit a number of players he might not like, and he'll just have to get on with it.
Given the quality of our squad however, I'm not sure any manager will have too many complaints

whoever it is will have possession based football as his starting point anyway, anyone here or coming in staff/players will be in that style under this ownership from here on out. Evolution not revolution.

Plus, I thought the whole point of a DoF was that he bought players to fit the club style, so that a change of manager shouldn't mean wholesale need for changes to players. The trick of course, is to find a manager that also fits the club style

Starting to feel a bit like hearing an announcement of a 1 year extension would be the worse case scenario. If he's intent on leaving let's bite the bullet and start planning for life After Pep, not just kick the can down the street for 12 months and have all thus speculation again this time next year. Obviously best case scenario is a long term extension and he's in the hot seat for the foreseeable future.
