Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Never understand those that think he will be a national team manager.

His way of playing only works with intensive training and repetition. It took our squad a year to pick it up. He wouldn’t have the training time with the players to implement his style.

Pretty sure he has said in that past that he is interested by the possibility, but I'm not going to search for quotes, so the idea is not based on logic...

And there he is, juvenile Dom Dom..... you’ve been told about this countless times, opinions, regardless if you agree with them, are for those to express. You were very quick to throw the ‘stupid card’ in, interesting, I had you down as sharper. Don’t try some ‘psychology for dummies’ spiel with me, lad, way out your league on that front.... it’s football, life will go on and when Pep leaves in 2021, you can upgrade your Pjs!

Misses point, again......pulls tongue

I've always held the belief that we would be lucky to get five years out of Pep and I have not seen or heard anything to change my mind.

I do think his family could influence how long he stays in the UK e.g. if his kids decide to go to University here that might prompt to him to keep a base of operation in the UK. That however does not mean he would keep managing City: he could (afford to) retire or even take an national coach job.

I'm sure one story did the rounds not too long ago that none of the Italian clubs were seen as offering the right type of project at the moment but IIRC you are correct that he has previously expressed an interest in completing the set of the four big leagues.

We can hope that Pep finds City getting under his skin and that achievements like the 100 points make him feel like he can do here something so special that he stays longer than expected but, whatever happens, let's enjoy it while we can.

I’m hoping that too, and perhaps based on a ‘fuck you’ premise. In this country he’s had to put up with provocative pundits, snide clickbait journalists who can’t wait to stick it to him every time we so much as drop a point, and outrageous refereeing of City games as a norm rather than an exception.....all of which would have been new to him, and hopefully motivational. I like to think we’ll get at least 4 years out of him, based on the fact that he’s got his friends around him here to help ease the load whenever he feels he needs it, and anything else is a bonus.

Anything that motivates him to keep going here.

The other big thing will be how the players continue to respond to him, can / will they keep putting in the levels of effort required?

Pep made a comment a while back, that the England manager should be an Englishman.

If that's how he sees international football, that the managers should be from the country of the team they manage, then unless there is a spectacular improvement in relations between Spain & the Catalans, I don't see how he can be an international manager.

I think that is key to this discussion about Pep's new contract, and the reason why he will renew 1 year at a time. Apparently the Bayern players were somewhat relieved when Pep left, because his way of coaching is so intense. I would guess he will be adjusting his ways all the time to try to amend this and become an even better coach, but he might not be able to fundamentally change it. And if he wears everybody out just by being Pep after some years it makes no sense to have a 10 year contract, neither for the club nor for Pep. I would think he will want to renew to harvest the titles with the team he is building here.

One of the possible scenarios: I know Pep has stated several times that he won't return to Barca, but if his team decides to take over FC Barcelona, dislodging Rosell/Bartomeu gang, the next elections are in 2021, it means spending at least 5 years at City. Not bad.
