Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Every player we sign makes a point of indicating the Pep effect is the biggest draw, if Torres was really wanted by the big two Spanish sides amongst others but picked us with Pep being a big swinging factor then surely he would have been looking for some kind of commitment from Pep to being his manager for more than 9 months before signing.

A decision and announcement on this really should have been made this summer. Even if something has been agreed in private one way or the other starting the season like this just fuels constant speculation and it can have an impact when things are not going exactly how we would want, we try very hard not to let it happen with players so why have we let it happen with our manager?

Even if he’s not sure about staying for whatever reason just get a 12 month extension signed and add in a break clause (a legally binding one) that doesn’t get made public
I am sick of hearing about players signing just for Pep, they sign for Manchester City FC.

And if they are signing for a manager and not the club it's not healthy.

The manager is one of the great coaches and understandable that players want to work with him but the club should be the biggest attraction.

Don’t forget we’ve had the threat of the UEFA ban hanging over us so we couldn’t exactly go splash the cash, Theres a reason we’ve been a bit more frugal.
Well that threat was lifted and the club never doubted their innocence , so that's not an excuse.

Maybe the possible covid 2 nd wave is an issue, who knows but there seems a very distinct change of direction at the club.

And the news of Aguero's longer than expected recovery makes the change of thinking even more apparent.

It looks like a major change in direction, but I am hoping not. It could be that we are waiting quietly to get players at the right price and it is so dead news wise because we just do not communicate with the press, or fans. If the apparent malaise at the club is real then I wonder why they even bothered fighting the CL ban at all.

I admire your confidence still mate and hope you are right but i honestly no longer see it happening.

Bart is on his way out, Messi will get a president who loves him again blah blah blah.
Agree with this, also think Pep extending is all about this. I believe that’s reason we are not being very active on transfers. Pep really needs to come out with his intentions now

I dont like the situation of a manager going into the last season along with players like Kun and the future still up in the air.

If he wants to extend then say so and get it done so that the focus is on football each week and not questions on his future. Rumours he is months away from making a decision is fine, that's his prerogative but it shouldn't be fine for the club and if its based on Messi possibly rocking up then i will be annoyed as no club should be hanging around and making major decisions on what if's.

Can he still keep up the motivation for himself and and players, can he create the same hunger within squad?
He did mention cycles before, also players and manager get tired of each other etc. Can he still get the best out of the squad...
Last season we had many losses and I did not have the feeling the players hate to lose. f they did they would not start playing only around 60th minute mark once we are behind and the house is burning.

Maybe 2 titles in a row made them a bit more content with what they achieved while Liverpool became very hungry for success after they lost out on 1 points to us. Those many late winners, coming back, turning around last 10 minutes, even against Leeds now they were putting men in the box, at 3-3 you could see they are going to find a goal.
Not playing particularly well but still getting the 3 points regularly. Sign of champions really.
On the contrary we lost games last season when playing well, dominate, having 20 shots and allowed only 2 shots for opponent and they got a win out of that.

The hunger and the tactical discipline off the ball in terms of proper pressing, workrate, trackback , positioning of defenders etc.
These two needs to be on top level this season if we want success and bounce back from last season.

To be honest once players get the feeling this is a farewell season to Pep I can see this going very bad way because they dont need to impress a manager who wont be here long anyway. Especially the players who will not be first choice players.

Soriano and Txiki would not let this contract situation to happen this way if it is not for Pep their big friend.
They would have pushed for a renewal or a change this summer. To let Pep think about it maybe until February, and then make a decision what we tell to potential new managers, we want you but maybe not, lets wait a few months?
The later Pep decides the less time we have to bring in/agree with the new one.

For Messi, I have same feeling he wanted Pep not City. If Pep would go to New York City maybe Messi would like to join them next summer not us.
