Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

I still think Poch is by some distance the most likely candidate to replace Pep if he were to not renew next season. In many respects I completely get it. Nagelsman, Rose, Ten Haag et al are different shades of unproven. Poch has done it in the PL consistently.

Lots of people focus on the whole 'what's he won' argument, but that's not hugely interesting for me. Poch is as demanding and exacting at Guardiola is. I'd have no worries if he stepped in because I believe we'd continue at the level we've been at over the last few years.
I’d echo that entirely, I’d expect some of the great young talent to prosper a little more also on top of that , this set up is perfect for him

It’s not that difficult for people to understand, and kind of aligns with the recruitment we’ve been down...

poch literally fits phase 3 of the mission statement City have put out there from day 1, which was the investment in the academy and transition into the 1st team, we can all see that is materialising, however, the fruits of that won’t be under Peps tenure, imo, which with Poch’s pedigree in this area, it couldn’t be a more perfect fit....

My worry, and it has been the same the last couple of years, is he is ending up in Trafford, sometimes the dots just can’t be joined for whatever reason, we have the Messi circus about to pitch up come January, if that is agreed (which is highly likely), then Pep isn’t going anywhere for at least another 2 years, which gives the scum a free run at Poch, and we may not like it but they also have an extremely talented pool of youngsters coming through....

decisions, decisions....

I'd be alright with Poch going there IF Pep stays another two years (and Leo comes).

It will be interesting to see what transpires, but my money is on a decision/announcement from Pep in December. If he's staying, he'll have to commit to get the Messi deal closed. Similarly if he isn't staying, I don't think they'll risk losing Poch, I think they'll make the announcement ala Pellegrini announcing Pep.

Only fly in the ointment is the antipathy between Poch and Pep. People very familiar with both men have said that they genuinely can't stand each other. Big big egos. But I hope that the board aren't remotely arsed about that. If Pep's off, doesn't matter who he likes/doesn't like.

Agreed, if Pep does not extend his contract then I would have no qualms in Poch taking over. Both of of them have similar beliefs in the way football should be played and whilst he has not won any trophies yet, I am confident he would be successful at City with the budget available.

Pochettino took a Spurs team to the CL final and ignited their resurgence to be a top 4 team (along with a title race). He is the best candidate if Pep were to decide to leave.

He's already exceeding his longest tenure of 4 years, I do not see him extending further

Pep has talked about this before, he is not a Fergie sort of profile - the job drains you & the players, a reset is needed at some point

I don’t agree. Wishful thinking on your part. We were told he was only saying 3 years and it will be 5 soon. If he wants to stay as he has hinted then I can see another 2 year deal.

Were would he go? He is comfortable and will not have the same influence or control at another team.

Unless he is bored/burnt out he will sign.

He did 5 years at Barca and needed a year off, he has since then done 3 at Bayern and is in his 5th year with us. I'd wager another year out if he does decide to walk at the end of the season.

The issue is just not if Pep himself is happy, it's the players.

A very demanding manager, incredibly intense, how the players react this season will be the real issue.

Also the decision for Pep to stay should not be dependent upon Messi arriving.
