Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Knew this thread would be mad active right after the game. If we'd won that 2-0 would it have been a great decision to have extended? Majority of the posts here are sounding reactionary. Getting a new manager wouldn't have changed anything as quick.
No mate I don't swing from result to result - it stems from our overall performance levels.

The drop off is frightening...........

I can't quite believe just how much people complain about the players.

If Klopp, Mourinho, Ole or whoever had this group of players and had them performing as badly then every single one of us would be pissing ourselves at their ineptitude.

But of course not. We're talking about the greatest manager in the world. You can tell he's the greatest because he's got about a million different criteria he needs in order to do a decent job, apparently.

I honestly think Pep could blow into a piano and some of you would blame it for not being a harmonica.

We have plenty of very good players. Dias and Laporte get high praise on here.

Cancelo and Walker are better than average FBs.

I get that the PL might be too fast for Rodri. But what clubs wouldn't want keV, Raheem, Torres, Bernardo, Foden, Jesus and even an ageing Kun in their squads.

Guardiola is just not making the most of the squad and that's fine he has been amazing. The question is has he hit the wall? Only he knows. The fact that he signed a new contract suggests he thinks he's got plenty to offer City.

But at the moment he looks out of gas.

I honestly thought Mourinho was yesterday's man so it can be premature to right people off.

My main concern is that Soriano, Txiki and Pep are all in a self admiration bubble.

So true, how many games have we lost in the last 18 months to teams with far less ability than ours?

Far too many, Pep is seriously underperforming with these players at this time.

Two of Three players are always going to lose a little form during a season, we have a team full.

The scary thing with your last sentence is that Khaldoon seems to have joined in as well and that is a worry.

I think Khaldoun is very diplomatic but he also seems to be quietly ruthless. If we don't make top 4 this season, he'll pull Pep aside and give him the opportunity to resign gracefully.

It’s his arrogance that annoys me. His utter reluctance to change what is so obviously wrong and not working. And each post match interview stating he is so proud of his players and that they were so unlucky. Total bullshit. Mahrez should be nowhere near the first team. Rodri just needs telling to sit in front of our centre halves and that he can only venture into the attacking third if we have a corner. Allow Silva to play in Merlin’s roving position and ffs stop putting him out on the fucking wing. He ain’t no fucking winger!

Whilst I can accept that we have lost world class players and in most cases not bought at the same level, I still think his game management this season has been poor. The high line for their goal, was just madness. You can buy world class defenders and they will struggle with these tactics. It’s rinse and repeat every week, teams only need one chance. What do they say about doing the same again and again when it does not work. We have no pace in the midfield for a quick transition. When we attack it’s so slow we allow teams to regroup and park the bus. Then it’s harder to break it down. In our title wining seasons, we were so quick with the transition that teams could not regroup quickly enough. Sane has been a huge miss, and we have too many pedestrian players. The premier league is all about pace and we don’t have any. Yesterday was a poor lineup, we had nobody to make things happen around the box. Foden sat on the bench for 72 minutes. We all could see the second goal coming, but we wait until they score before reacting. We rarely make any substitutions to change a game. Kevin is having to carry this team and it’s affecting his form. He no longer has the same level of player around him in the midfield. Players heads dropped in the second half which is worrying, and not sure the players buy into the current tactics. The manager and players did not seem to be hurt enough after that defeat. Pep thinks we are not far away, far away from what is what I would question. We desperately need a strong number two who would question his tactics and team selection. I wanted Pep to stay but he really needs to step up now and earn his money. My concern was the comments about Khaldoon, has he been persuaded to stay when he might have been thinking of leaving. Time will tell, but for now Foden needs to be one of the first names on the team sheet. Get back to playing players in their correct position and those in form. A long way to go this season to put things right, and we can, but we need to change things quickly. How ironic would it be to have won the CAS appeal and not qualify for next season’s champions league. It would be ‘typical city.’

Great post, unfortunately.

There’s an old saying

“A good deed never goes unpunished”

From what I’m seeing is the club City have given Pep everything he wants, players, training ground, apartment etc

Now he’s punishing us by being stubborn and not installing change in tactics..

Unless he doesn’t know how to turn it around, but something has to give.
