I don't know about anybody else but I loved the way he talked in this afternoon's presser. He sounded almost relaxed. He wanted to talk, you could see that. He doesn't always. Not unconcerned about the situation, but relaxed. He relishes the challenge, genuinely. “Now I have to prove myself”. Yes Pep, by your standards, you do. You may have won absolutely everything going at three different clubs, including the Champions League at two of them, you may have done things in England that have never been done before (a domestic treble, a hundred points in a season, four titles as champions in a row), you may have created the best club side ever seen at Barcelona; but all that is by the by. What you're interested in is now, the current situation. And it is something of a crisis. So yes, you have to prove yourself in the current circumstances. Crazy. But true.
So, so privileged to have this guy at the helm.
In passing, without making a big thing of it, he also mentioned “rebuilding the team”. He's already thinking about that. He's thinking about what he can about the present situation, in the short term, but he's also thinking strategically, for the medium-term. When he does leave — and I do think it'll be 2027, at the latest — he wants to hand over something.
