Pep's Greatest Game

Real Madrid at the Etihad was the highest watermark.

Will always cherish a humbler occasion, however: winning away in the League Cup at the Albion in September 2017. It was a mixed bag team selection and we only won 2-1, but the football was exceptional, and it was evident that Guardiola’s philosophy had permeated the entire squad.

We’ll see more trophies held high, but I doubt we’ll ever see the game held as high.

That’s how I remember it. I rang my dad straight after and said “That’s the best City performance I have ever seen” and he agreed. We’d all seen it building, even during his first season (I seem to remember winning 6-0 at Watford in the final game) but that was when we made the football world stand up and take notice.
I've mentioned this game in a couple of other similar threads a while back. The 4-0 Madrid game gets the accolades, but that Chelsea game was simply stunning. The control and domination of the opposition was remarkable.

He text wio before the game, telling him we are going to beat them tonight. He could smell it :)
Fucked up getting our normal seats in 116 but managed to get 2 tickets in NS L2 right near the TV studio, on the aisle. 4 times I got to run up to the windows to give ducklips shit. Absolutely slaughtered the ****. I was maniacal and totally consumed by City battering his beloved Madrid. After the 4th goal a steward appeared beside me and said "I think he's had enough now mate, just leave it yeah". For a fleeting moment I thought maybe I'd made a bit of a twat of myself, have I gone too far? Conflicted, I thought about it, weighed everything up, went through the pro's and cons, went back through all my actions.....flicked the **** two more fingers and sat down.

Got to be the 4-0 especially the first half when Madrid could not live with us.

In a footballing sense the 0-3 away to Arsenal in 2018 was majestic and Sane's third goal incredible in terms of pass and move.

That performance at the Emirates was simply stunning. The team we had there I'm like wow! Sane, Merlin, Gundogan, Kev, Bernie and Aguero as our front 6! That 3rd goal especially had Peps signature all over it. Fantastic times and I'm so glad we have videos to rememeber it all by.

My gut is starting churn up again already. I'm so bloody sad! Thank fuck I have you guys to share my thoughts with!

Apart from the obvious one's going to arsenal and absolutely schooling them a few days after beating them at Wembley brings a smile.
The half empty stadium emptied further after 30 minutes.
Think this was prime city at our best.
I think this too a mention to the Stoke home 7-2 and a couple of total destructions of the rags

There are so many, too many, but the obvious ones have been outlined and really well articulated above.

One that sticks out for me was the 5-0 at home to Newcastle in 2022. OK, Newcastle weren't a great side at that point, but on the back of that traumatic night in Madrid, we saw our manager lift the team off the canvas to reignite towards the title. The game itself may not stand out, but the context of the crushing blow just three nights earlier followed by a comprehensive win spoke volumes about Pep's abilities as a manager to lift the team.

I couldn't believe what I was witnessing in the Madrid game, just stunning. I'd also make a strong case for the Liverpool game in January 2019. The occasion, the atmosphere, what was at stake, the levels those two incredible teams reached - and whatever we all think of them and their fans especially that Liverpool team was absolutely unbelievable. Utterly brilliant match, totally draining. Vinnie standing over Salah bellowing at him after he'd cleaned him out. The Stones 11mm clearance. Leroy's winner. And I've still got no idea how Sergio just battered the first goal past Alisson where there was no space. What a game, what a night.
The Madrid and Pool games are my 1st and second choices. The Pool game was more exciting as they put up a good fight, Madrid we’re totally outplayed something I never dreamed of seeing.

Not the most important game but my god that Stoke game sticks in my memory. I remember saying to my wife when KDB made that pass for the last. ‘What the fuck is he doing?…..oh’. Just pure magic that whole game. Some of the football was right off the scale.

The 4-1 win against the Arse a couple of years ago.
It was a title decider and a bloody evening game too boot. I was so nervous at work all day, pacing back and forth.
Turns out I had nothing to worry about, we showed them who the top dogs where.
DeBruyne's opener was a thing of beauty and doesnt get the credit it deserves. The way he took it early.
Then Haaland litteraly letting his hair down then scoring, just to cap it all off.
Wonderfull night.

So the great man leaves having brought success beyond our wildest dreams.

I had a think about what game I enjoyed the most, what performance I thought was our best and this game for me was not only our greatest performance but one of the best any side has ever produced in my opinion.

Total dominance in that first half. They didn't have the ball in our half for 20 odd minutes which is just mind blowing.

Considering who it was against and the matches we had played against them before, to do that to a side coached by Ancelotti makes it even more exceptional.

Edersons save from Kroos at 1-0 is so important, incredible save!
