you have to love pep win or lose he gives it to you straight he never points fingers and the ref's are never to blame for not us winning
we are in a hole at the moment and things are so easy to see why but pep just gives you every confidence we will change it and come good
pep did fuck up in the last couple of games but in truth we are down to the bare bones in defence what other choices did he have
maybe the summer clean out with Mangala Denayer he could have given them 6 months and then loan them out but again kompany was backed right or wrong by pep he backed him and we have to get trust pep
He hasn't fucked up in the last couple of games. We should have been two up against Chelsea which would have been game over as we could have countered then. We fell apart and it highlighted our defensive frailties. Against Leicester it was a similar issue to that which we had last season. There were huge gaps between our midfield and defence at times and marking was horrific. A long punt up field (Pep wouldn't want our players to play such an aimless pass) led to their first goal where they headed it clear and won the second ball to play Vardy in.
Horrific defending allowed their second. Not marking players and being slow to react to clearances. By that time we were rocking and going for broke and leaving huge gaps as our midfield pushed up and left our defence isolated. That played into Vardy's hands. Stones' mistake was poor awareness of the situation and compounded the game.
I'm not defending Pep and you cant genuinely say we don't have defensive issues. But it's the overall style of play we are failing at. We are supposed to be keeping the ball and controlling possession. If we do that the opposition do not create chances. You also more often than not create a lot of chances to score and when you lose the ball you press intensely to win the ball back as soon as possible.
Everyone talks about Barca being great because of Messi. They lost to us with him in the side but without Pique and Iniesta. They were uncharacteristically poor in possession at times and particularly under pressure at the back.
This leads me to two points. One, the team style of play is crucial and not one player. Though having Messi certainly isn't a bad thing! Secondly, the quality of players is still crucial. Pique and Busquets for example will make one mistake between them every ten games if not more! That certainly helps the style. At the moment our defence are making several a game. Kolarov long aimless ball led to Leicesters first goal. Stones' back pass led to the fourth.
Getting comfortable in the system, hammering home how he wants the team to play should eradicate errors and see us improve defensively. That will take time and after more time we will know if they can do it or if we need to invest or try younger players.
