When we lived abroad I used to sit outside with a rather large yet extremely willing Gin and Tonic and watch these guys, usually between midnight and 3 am. Really is like a firework display, well worth waiting up for if the sky is clear and there's no light pollution.

Just been out and saw 4 good ones that left trails. Although the best one looked like either 2 or 3 together and was from a different direction than the Perseids. Might try again in a bit.

We had a weird experience when we were sat out enjoying the night on The Somme last month. Night sky was velvet black, huge array of stars. We watched 3 objects move at incredible speed about 3 minutes apart and all in the same direction. They looked like planes given the linear nature of their movement but the speed was in the thousands of miles per hour. Apparently bits of a comet. We were convinced they were craft of some sort. Weird but amazing.

Anybody see the meteor last night? I'm in Manchester and at about 10.20pm you could see it burn up in the atmosphere. Incredible.
