Perspective (2026 Edition)

Let’s be honest, we were flying high with 8 wins on the trot, and even the 3 draws we had following that were against fairly decent teams so we could just wait until the wins came rolling in again.

However, during those draws we lost the majority of our defensive bloc which threw our whole system out the window.

Although I’m pissed that Pep hasn’t adjusted (like he did earlier in the season) I also understand that he’s the one who has to tell the players that he’s confident in them with the system. Otherwise, changing the system automatically tells them that he’s confident doesn’t trust them.

Perspective is everything, and things could get worse before getting better.

The most important thing the flappers need to get in their mindset is that we aren’t the 2017-2024 City anymore. Their expectations need to come down massively. We are building a new team and haven’t finished doing it yet, and even then that new group will need a bit of time to gel and gain experience (as an unusual number of players in the squad are young).

We are doing quite well, considering I feel we are closer to the 2009-10 team than the 2017-2024 City sides.

Yeah we’ve had a bad week, and an average month, but we also put in a top display at Newcastle last week and had been on a long unbeaten run until the trip to the Swamp.

I said at the start of the season that I had no idea what we were going to be this season, yet we’re 2nd in the PL and the league’s top scorers, have one foot in Wembley for the EFL Cup final, even if we don’t finish in the top8 of the CL we aren’t out (PSG won the comp from lower then where we’ll finish, last season, not that we’re going to win it but no need to panic just because we have to play another round and it wouldn’t be so bad as we can get the injured and new plauers some much needed game time), we have loads of injured and new players to come into the team and we do still have some class players despite not being as good as we were.

2017-2024 weren’t just unusual for City, they were unusual for most clubs in the history of English football. What we achieved was incredible but nothing lasts forever. Just need to calm the fuck down and get behind this young team. I’m more excited about what we’re going to be as a team in a couple of years than being hung up on how well or badly we’re playing at the moment.

Quite a good post this. A CL place is the priority - it has to be. Anything else would be a bonus.
But the point made about expectations is absolutely right especially if people expect multiple consecutive league titles. What City has done in the last 10 years is not at all normal, it’s quite unbelievable.
Apart from getting players back the other challenge is whether Pep and the players can adapt tactically
