PES 12 demo

Agree with GStar, people will play whichever is the best game. This 'Fanboy' ideology is nonsense.

For me, the best footy game of all time was PES6. It had everything but next gen graphics.

I was a PES player right from the days of ISS, but after PES6, it went downhill at the same time Fifa rose from the dead. I try to give PES another shot every year but it just isn't what it was.

Fifa is by no means perfect and still frustrates the hell out of me. It is not untouchable, but its still better than anything else.

If you had PES6's gameplay, with a few improvements given technological advances combined together with Fifa's bells and whistles - you'd have the ultimate game.

Well thats bollocks (in the nicest possible way) ;)

Everyone used to play PES (myself included) up until this gen and around 2005... the switch has happened because FIFA have been producing a far superior game.

Proof if you like, that the masses will migrate to the 'best' game, as opposed to being 'fan boys'.

PES deffinately hasn't had this "inertia", i remember people moaning FIFA was to sluggish and PES was better because i could pick the ball up in my own half, dribble round 16 players and them smash it in the top corner from 30 yards... with David Sommeil!

I can't even try this version yet as Seabass can't even coordinate a demo launch anymore.

How the mighty have fallen.
I think that's a little bit misleading. I think a lot of people got fed up of the lack of licenses on PES, whereas EA practically bought the rights for nearly every league in the land. Coupled with the fact that Konami completely failed when moving from ps2 to ps3, it's easy to see why Fifa became popular again.

I think we're on different levels when talking about inertia. In PES it has always felt like i am running on an actual football pitch and there is friction in force which dictates that i cannot perform super human turns at break neck speed. Like there is inertia between the player and the pitch. Don't get me wrong, it's always been possible to dribble with the ball. I highly doubt scoring 30 yarders with David Sommeil is a frequent occurence though.

In Fifa it feels like i am floating or skating above the pitch on rails. Fifa 08 and Fifa 09 were fine in this regard, but as soon as they introduced 360 movement, i feel like the laws of physics are defied. The breakneck speed of the game also contributes to this.

I think we went over this last year anyway. Like i said earlier, both are good games in general, but they both have their obvious flaws.

-- Fri Aug 26, 2011 10:46 am --

Noooooo

Pes 5's gameplay. Pes 6 was too fast and too easy to attack. Pes 5 was more balanced and more difficult.

Seems ono and I are on the same page. PES was the better game, but FIFA still sold as many, if not more copies because of the licenses, the amount of people who didn't want to play as 'Man Blue' was staggering, really.

FWIW, I'm not saying PES 2012 is going to be the better game, because although I'm hammering the demo, it still doesn't feel quite right, and I think a lot of that is to do with the lack of fully manual controls. Even with 0 passing assistance and the L2 modifier, passes still ping to feet sometimes.

I have been playing FIFA since the early days, I wouldn't knock PES because to be honest it is pretty decent to play but its like someone said when I am playing I would like a bit of authenticity. I have played the PES12 demo and I can't fault it, I was just wondering though, with PES having the Champions League license would City be properly represented or would our ties with EA not allow this?

No we'd be Man Blue i'd imagine, but after around 1 week, there will be option files out, so all teams will have proper names and kits etc.. so it's no bother really.

for consoles, you just download them and copy them onto a usb, insert the usb into your console and copy them over. Piece of piss.

Good stuff, cheers for the info

I think this is collywobble.

Option files were widely available, if it was such a big issue you could also get the game chipped (in an era where everyone got their machine chipped easily and cheaply). WHich meant you got all kits, boots, even advertising boards.

But even then, people played PES because it was by far the better football game. I've found that the majority of stick FIFA gets now, is for the same features that were previously praised in PES.

Lol Collywobble. Going to use that in future.

I find it hard to agree though. Most of my mates switched over mainly because of the licenses. Obviously Fifa was a good game aswell and PES was stagnating.

My main gripe with Fifa is the speed of the game, the lack of individuality and the pressure and over the top tackling. Sliders this year could fix most of these things though so it could be a really good game again.

We both agree that the license issue on PES in moot, the option files are out within days to rectify that?

I really only play club matches now anyway. It rids many of the annoyances with CPU AI although the computer generated players on the team need a bit of tweaking. We've affectionately named them 'shit heads'... for obvious reasons.

Yes they are now. Damage has been done now. PES feels so different to Fifa now that regular Fifa players aren't that likely to instantly take to it, and they're happy with fifa, then they have no reason to put the time in with PES. That's my opinion anyway.

What is clubs? I've heard about it but never understood what it is?

That's where i completely disagree, it was never an issue... at least it should never have been.

I can't remember playing PES without all official licensing. It should never have been an issue for anyone who played the game regularly.

Damage wasn't done by not having licensing imo.

Pro Clubs, you create your player at the beginning of each FIFA, his base skills will vary depending on what position you choose to play (this can be changed whenever you like) I.e you may create yourself as a striker, six months later you may decide you want to be a CB, you're base stats will alter accordingly.

From there, you have a book of accomplishments spanning different areas; defence, passing, shooting etc completing tasks in game will unlock addition al skill. i.e "beat 10 opponents with skill moves" might unlock "dribbling +3".

You and friends then create your own club, where you control your own player (or control 'any' all additional CPU players) and play against other teams.

If it wasn't for that feature, i think i'd be getting bored of football games now... i could play this form of the game professionally. It's brilliant.

Sorry, when i said damage is done, i mean just in general, with PES spending a few years being absolutely shit and Fifa getting better. Like i think it will take a year where EA get's complacent and Konami really up their game before Fifa players give PES a proper chance again.

Clubs sounds quite good. Might give it a go when 12 comes out.

Ah got ya... i'm hoping the PES era gave the FIFA team the kick up the arse they needed. They seem to engage with the fan community a lot more now and listen to feedback. Long may it continue.

It is mate, finding a club that play like a team as opposed to everyone thinking they're Maradonna isn't easy, but when you do... if i could speak Italian,i'd say something profound.

I always played without licenses until I moved to PES6 on the PC. Getting anything from the internet onto a PS2 memory card was a pain,

Played a few games of this yesterday against my brother and it's pretty fun, seems like every game finishes 3-3, 4-3 or similar. Keepers are useless so the goals fly in, funny moment Robinho takes a long throw into the box, de Gea comes dashing out but gets nowhere near it and Ibra nods into an empty net.

So pretty realistic then? ;)

Is this on Xbox marketplace yet? I can't see it but im probably being blind.

Every year I pray this is going to be better than FIFA.
