Peter Drury replaces Martin Tyler on Sky Sports

This will be the end of him on Sky at least

Would be very surprised if he survives this - the victimhood will be in full swing by this evening and you can imagine all the scouse gobshites being lined-up to spout off to the media.

But his comments were:

“You have got to remember football was in a bit of a crisis at that time. We weren’t that long after Hillsborough and other hooligan-related issues as well, so it was very much a difficult time for the game generally.”

To me he is commenting on 2 very different "problems" of the time....the tragedy of Hillsborough, and the associated fall out...and then hooliganism.

There are already quotes about how awful he is in that article.

Not sure if the interview sounds worse live, but the quote ends with "as well" which does support his argument that it was a clumsy way of expressing that Hillsborough and hooliganism were two separate issues that negatively affected football.

The fact that fans were penned-in is a link to hooliganism, isn’t it?
The prevailing mood of fans being regarded as guilty even when they weren’t, caused by the hardcore of actual hooligans linked to clubs including Liverpool.

I don `t like the bloke one bit but I don`t think he meant to use the two in same sentence, meaning the same thing.
However he could have used his words slightly differently but if it helps to get rid of the useless twat then count me in the "horrified group." ;)

Yeah, if he just missed out saying "other" then it reads differently. The hazards of live commentating I guess, but obviously things then get blown out of proportion by some fan bases...
