Peter Lever RIP

Very sad to read that Peter Lever has passed away. Used to watch a lot of Lancs as a child and he was an absolute hero of mine, he was the first truly quick bowler I saw live. Unlike some of the snides on bbc sport online there’s a lovely eulogy about him from Jonathan Agnew on there, really nice. RIP “Sir Peter Lever” as we used to refer to him

Came to our school once and bowled a few gentle ones. It was past me bere I'd lifted my bat :)

Also I hadn’t realised he refused to bowl in the Derbyshire v Lancs game that had been snowed off for a day (Buxton in the summer lol!) cos he didn’t want to hurt anyone

Seventies cricket at OT was absolutely fantastic. Our Geography teacher used to arrange school trips to watch the one day cup ties. Every single Lancs player was a legendary household name in my eyes.

I was a regular at Old Trafford during the 60s, sat with my orange juice and warm tomato sandwiches.
In the winter, I played with my OWZAT game, keeping a exercise book with Lancs' against other counties.
Often used to "manipulate" wickets to favour Statham and Lever and credit runs to Geoff Pullar.

Definitely one of my hero’s in the Halcyon days of the 1970’s.
Lancs had hell of a team.
Lever,Lee and Shuttleworth three pronged pace attack.
Flat Jack and David Hughes -spin all rounders.
Farouk Engineer - keeper batsman
Frank Hayes, Sir Clive and Harry Pilling
Barry Wood and Bumble opening.

Jackie Bond was Captain in the early 70’s too.
