Phone unlocking

I read a couple of weeks ago that new laws had been introduced to make it illegal to unblock mobiles. It's to try and reduce the unblocking of stolen phones - something to do with new anti-Violent Crime measures.

It's still legal if it's for the purpose of switching networks, and presumably they would have to unblock it for you if you were changing providers.

theres a difference between unblocking and unlocking.
unblocking is illegal because its done by the network operators to render a phone unuseable if its been stolen. unlocking just lets you use a legitimate phone on a different network and is quite legal.

Right.....I've got the code but not had chance to have a go yet. Anyone know what the next step is?

think you have to power up the phone with no sim card in (making sure its fully charged) then when it says insert sim you type in the code there, but i would check on one of the unlocking forums for a definative answer. i think you get 3 attempts so be carefull
