Well said Mr Brennan

DAVID Moyes appears to be waging a one-man campaign to turn Saturday's Goodison Park clash into a grudge match.

For a man who, four years ago, berated his fellow managers for talking too much about other clubs and other players, he seems to have developed an unhealthy, green-eyed obsession with Manchester City.

This week he has taken another pot-shot at the Blues, criticising the acquisition of Patrick Vieira as bad for English football. Be wary when any Scotsman starts talking about what is good for English football.

It all began last summer when he and Hughes had a gripping tug-of-war over Joleon Lescott, before the City signed the defender for £24m.

To some extent, you could understand him grouching but then you remember that Everton have flexed their superior financial muscle to take players from less wealthy clubs, during Moyes' tenure and any sympathy quickly evaporates.

And the fact that the Toffees picked up a more than generous fee for Lescott also lessens the legitimacy of Moyes' grumbles.

At the heart of his moans was the fact that Hughes did not involve himself in the negotiation process. He stuck to City's modus operandi - he identified the target, then left it to chief executive Garry Cook and football administrator Brian Marwood to thrash out a deal.

That narked Moyes, who likes to think he has total control of Everton's transfer policy, and even went so far as to describe City's pursuit of Lescott as 'disgusting'.

That episode appears to have tainted his view of the Blues ever since - such was the bad feeling surrounding the transfer that both clubs were somewhat relieved when the meeting scheduled for the first week of the season, was postponed due to Everton's European involvement. It still has to be re-arranged.

But, with the reverse fixture upon us, Moyes has turned his fire on City again, perhaps in a clumsy attempt at mind games.

Asked about the arrival of Vieira, he claimed it was bad news for City's Academy.

Moyes view

"I'm sure there will be a lot of young players at City who will be disappointed at not getting the chance they might have otherwise done," he said.

"It might turn out to be a good move for City but, if you're asking me if it is good for English football, then I'm not so sure. I think a lot of people would like to see young British players given that sort of chance."

Perhaps a lot of people would also like to see youngsters given a chance rather than Everton spending £5.3m on 32-year-old Frenchman Sylvain Distin, or bringing in American Landon Donovan who, if he scores a goal or two in the World Cup in June, won't be doing much good for English football.

To be fair, Everton are better than most Premier League clubs at developing and blooding young players - James Vaughan, Jack Rodwell and Leon Osman spring to mind.

But in recent weeks City have handed a debut to Dedryck Boyata, a first start to Vlad Weiss and involved Andrew Tutte, Abdi Ibrahim and Kieran Trippier in the first team squad.

No doubt Moyes would prefer his side to line up against rookies like Tutte or Ibrahim rather than a World Cup winner like Vieira.

Perhaps he should recall his words in 2006, when he was annoyed with Arsene Wenger for making comments about Everton.

"There are people with big mouths who are coming out and saying things, that is wrong, you should not talk about other clubs' players, they should just talk about their own," he said.

"I'm not talking about Arsene Wenger, but many other people who should just look after their own clubs and concentrate on their own players."

He can't have a pop at Sir Moe of Sizzlak, the Goodison Gollum. The MEN boards will be overrun with aggrieved dippers.

To be fair to Moyes, and all managers, he was asked about Manchester City, it's not like he comes in and starts off ranting about them.

toffees

tomorrows matchshould be a hostile affair so we need to get an early goal to shut them up. going of the stats of city away and the scousers at home, they are the same won 3,drawn 5 and lost 2 but we have a plus goal difference of 2 on away games and they have a minus 1 at home . scousers 1 city 3

My hatred for Everton is at an all time high.

I've never had much time for them to be honest. Every fan of theirs I've met has always turned out to be a delusional prick but that's by the by and I'm sure there must be a few good lads amongst their 20'000 or so fans.

Moyes is a fucking scum bag though and I really hope we fucking do them tomorrow.

He's like the miserable prick that all of us have on the periphery of our lives. Never has a nice thing to say and you just know that underneath his stone wall twat of a face he's full to the brim of nothing but hatred, jealousy, envy and a general air of cuntishness. He'd be better off dead. I'm not wishing him dead before anyone starts just observing he'd be better off dead the miserable faced twat.

does he have difficulty with the words 'no comment'?
He could have said "As I have made clear in the past, I am not here to talk about another clubs players"

If he wants a fucking battle tomorrow then we have plenty of players who will be up for that.

Should be a cracker.

3-1 win for the mighty blues.

His motives are bloody paper-thin. He's sending out a message to the rags. "Hey,ragsville. Look at me. I'm an ill-mannered Jock with a persecution complex trying desperately hard to play shallow mind games with a team just before an important game. Remind you of anyone? Hint, hint".

He's like David Brent: continually casting sideways glances in the hope that his words and actions are being picked up.

David Brent was a decent bloke underneath all his insecurities and mental problems.

Tragically, Moyes has nothing beneath his exterior and is in fact little else but a twat. However, he'll no doubt guide Everton to a 12th place finish and be lauded as the greatest living manager as per every other season.

it was a good read that really hope we play them off the park sat and bang 3 or 4 past them that would shut the prick up!!

I'm not sure I agree or disagree with any of this but it is definitely one of the most entertaining paragraphs I have ever read on bluemoon!

Stop sitting on the fence and just come out with it!!! ;-)

Nice one, I really think it will kick off tomorrow and a great deal of the blame should fall to Moyes and his antics. It's such a shame really as we used to have so much in common and more player links than with any other top flight clubs.

this just doesn't wash, I've tried to think of a leading question that could link the Vieira signing with the development of British youngsters and I can't, asked about Vieira being a good signing he could have stuck to talking about whether it was good for Manchester City but turned it into "City are ruining British youngsters" boll*cks, in fact, he chose to introduce the question himself "if you're asking if ..etc"
I can understand you wishing to defend your manager but you need to take the blinkers off.
