On Question Time last night the cream of British intellect were debating if the technology was available to prevent these so called sophisticated Somali pirates from threatening the trade route through the Gulf of Aden.

Their alternative being, and I fookin kid you not.....sending all the oll tankers around the bottom of Africa and back up!

Ahem, the Royal Navy managed to keep the Atlantic shipping routes open and defeat the crack German U-boat fleet 60 years ago so a few third world bandits shouldn't be too hard to deal with.

Also they asked if a Royal Naval warship should RETALIATE IF FIRED UPON!!!! HMS Cumberland was recently fired upon by some turds and so they killed the fooking lot of them stone dead. GET SOME! And that languid tit Dimbleby commented that perhaps that was a little OTT. Laughable.

Here's the answer, the oil rich nations of the middle east finance NATO countries for frigate escorts as they pass through and anyone who comes with 10 miles without good reason them gets sunk. And we don't pick the survivors up and grant them asylum either.
 
A local shipping company has a number of boats that transport nuclear waste from Japan for reprocessing at Sellafield, they have a contingent of armed police onboard and some medium caliber guns to protect the vessels, don't see why others can't do the same.

Totally agree, it's fucking ridiculous that there are pirates in this day and age.

PMSL! I watched it last night and thought exactly the same thing! Must admit I was chuffed that our navy lads stood for no messing. :)

I'm sure they said on the radio that this is what the latest one was doing. If that's the case it's not a very successful alternative.

And no doubt we'll pick up the tab... back to £1.15 per litre rather than government(s) doing something positive about it.

well I had to admit, when I listened to it on question time, it did strike me as pretty stupid. All the politicians were doing is what they normally do, not taking any particular stance in case anyone thinks they actually stand for something and are called extremist as a consequence, they dont want to come up with the sensible answer in case the other lot use it against them.

Two things sprung to mind, One how about a large electric fence right around the boat...Yes I know electricity and Water dont necessarily get on like Blair and Bush but surely in the age of wonderful technologies, a system that Fry's anyone trying to clamber onto a boat isnt too far out the realms of fantasy. Two What the fuck do we upkeep a very expensive Navy for? The French used there Navy to pretty good effect when a french boat was nabbed, why are we afraid to use our. All that lot said was we dont want armed conflict on the high seas, as if we started it. I suggest if you want to deter them, give them a bloody nose and see if they are so keen to get back on the sea afterwards!!!
 
We got two british citizens on that boat! Get the fecking SAS on that boat and kill those pirates already!
