PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

And on this week of middle aged men yearning for the 90s, we're going to talk about the Keane v Vieira rivalry again

Got in 1…..

I remember in the 90s you’d see blokes still dressed a teddy boy going on about the 60s. Us young lads would think they are dicks living in the past & I can’t imagine the kids are arsed about or even aware who Neville & Carragher are.

In our latest accounts we had record revenues of just over £700m and yet only made £80m in profit. Of that £700m, £300m of it was broadcast revenue, the majority, for being in the PL and reaching the final of the CL. These revenues would disappear overnight. That wipes out the profit and gives us an approx. £200m black hole.

The leagues below the PL also have FFP/PSR, so if we go down there, we would have similar rules to abide by but with a much lower turnover. We would be looking for players earning £10kp/w not £300kp/w. It would be a fire-sale and if after all that, we could somehow scrape a side together that could get promoted, we would be back in the PL at a starting point similar to just before the Mansour takeover but now with rules in place that would make a similar investment in players and subsequent rise through the PL almost impossible.

The club will always go in in some shape or form, of that I am certain. However, this current Manchester City, this behemoth of a club, would IMO be effectively finished by a guilty verdict.

I know that sounds pessimistic and possibly overly dramatic but that’s how it feels to me. I pray I am miles wide of the mark.
In the nightmare scenario you describe surely our owners would just 'loan' the club a few hundred million like abramnovich did at Chelsea?

Lawrence the city fan put up a good fight against some of the sledging on the latest ep of the overlap. Kudos.

I’m just tired of it all tbh, the constant sniping and defending of it, if and it’s a big if we lost we’d be absolutely fucked, but there no way they are spending £300 million on the north stand etc if there was even a remote chance of that happening I just can’t see it, the repercussions not just for us but the whole league would be monumental. I couldn’t see it ending with us, leaks and information about other clubs would start to leak out maybe from information we have on everyone, people in glass houses etc. it could bring the league down.
Thats why i think there case is weak

Who in there right mind would spend all that money if there was a huge chance of relegation ????,

I honestly believe that this case has dragged on so long because the PL have to nail you now if not then its a dark day for the PL and the red top clubs

For my own understanding, if we were to be expelled/relegated from the Premier league, why would we not go straight in to the championship? Why would it be League 2? The PL dont have say over the Football league do they?
If we were relegated by way of large points deduction, it would be to the championship.
If we are expelled from the PL we would have to apply to the EFL who could then decide where we go or even say they don't want us and we go to non league.

Here's a question. If the worst was to happen and we got relegated a division or two, which players would stay and which would go?

If they couldn't convict Greenwood with video proof and the victim bleeding..

I think you severely underestimate our chances considering we never admitted any guilt and innuendo and wishful thinking is not admission or proof of guilt.

If people really believe that this sport could survive effectively killing off its apex predator with rules and regulations designed to protect the teams we have taken over they need to think.

This isn't happening, if it did all the cunts that are left would be constantly looking over their collective shoulders waiting for the knife in the back.

I imagine our owner would do whatever was necessary to keep the club going. However, I think this picture that some blues paint of we can go down, have a jolly old time in the Championship, then bounce back up and win the PL is LOTR and Harry Potter levels of fantasy.

What do you think happens then? We get found guilty and it's a mass exodus the owner sells up and/or has to put up with 2nd division pies whilst the Etihad campus turns into neverland?

FIrst time post.
The thing is, pretty much every supporter has a view on whether we're guilty or not. Them that think we are have already marched on to punishment levels. The press sell papers to 97% non City fans, so it's inevitable that the flavour of content sits in line with their listeners or readers. We're on the other side of the fence arguing that we didn't, but really none of us have any clue as to how far we bent a rule, or overstepped or blatantly disregarded.
There's only one important question and I've not seen or heard anyone on it. Our innocence or guilt is irrelevant. The only question that we address at this point is whether the FPL can prosecute successfully.

Personally I think it's doubtful, since taking over the club have made so few mistakes that it's difficult to see them being sloppy if they considered what they were doing broke the rules at the time. It's not impossible of course - complacency affects everyone but if the club looked back in light of the charges and were worried, I'm sure we'd have seen a less bullish response and a very quiet negotiation.
Other club's label ours as sportswashing project and for the sake of this argument lets assume it is. Sportswashers are all about reputation and PR, this in itself suggests that we consider ourselves in a good place. The last thing the UAW royal family want is to be labelled serial cheats, City are such a small part of their portfolio - if there was any risk of this affecting the bigger picture - they would have sold up and walked pretty much immediately.
The other side of the coin. Id be disappointed if we were proven to be cheating. I'd be angry withe the clubs ownership for taking liberties, I'd probably even accept serious punishment. but it wouldn't actually matter - we'd stillplay football twice weekly and still have a laugh. Our grandkids might even get to see us win a trophy. Happy days.

Hoping we are getting away with a hefty fine ,like we did last time with uefa, good job you are innocent till proven guilty in the UK ? , otherwise the red cartel led by the southern centric media would have hung any and everyone who has anything to do with city. Sheik Mansour is a shrewd man with a great business acumen and money is no object, so we'll fight to the end with dignity like we always do and then sue the jealous established hierarchy for deformation of character when they find us not guilty. KEEP THE FAITH

I think they are spot on and it would be a right laugh.

Do the EFL look at APTs in League 2? Seems like Wrexham got to spend what they liked.

If not, SM should just get Etihad to sponsor us for £500m a season.
