I think it might have gone the same route as most 'political' apologies do. You apologise for the event happening but steer clear that you were wholly responsible for it! it might have been 'Dear Juve, we are sorry for your loss!' I believe Juve told 'em to fuck off, same as the Pope did with the Rags.

There is always the not so subtle use of the passive or the subjunctive: “We are sorry for any damage that may have been caused…”

This is said slightly in jest, but also slightly not!… if we are found guilty of any of the charges and are given a points deduction, this isn’t the worst season it could happen in!
