Plane crash - Chapecoense FC - Awarded Copa Sudamericana - first game back today. P25

Not hundreds just checked 19 times.
No we are not like them your right
But both utd and Liverpool would call the press in for a photo opportunity that's w hat they do.
We are and we should be better than that a minutes silence is that ,not a photo opportunity imho

People will slag you off for that because any criticism against the club is seen as slander, but you're right. It seemed like a PR exercise to me, but if it wasn't and it was the players who did it of their own free will then put the camera down

The pilot of a plane carrying a Brazilian football team said he had run out of fuel moments before crashing in Colombia, according to a recording.

Seventy-one people died when the aircraft came down in a mountainous area, including most of the Chapecoense side and 20 Brazilian journalists on board.

There were six survivors - three players, two Bolivian crew members and a journalist.

The pilot radioed to air traffic controllers that he was running out of fuel and needed to make an emergency landing, according to the co-pilot of another plane in the area.

Thank you
It just seemed wrong that a nice gesture was ruined by the clicking of the camera maybe its just me it just seemed so raggish and we all snear at Liverpool for their wreath laying and club branded candles
I hope our club never go down that path

If the pilot knew he was running out of fuel why would he go into a holding pattern ? Surely he would demand an emergency, straight in, landing ?

Also there are reports the plane should have refuelled at another Bolivian airport further north, but they were late leaving, and it closed at nightfall, so had to refuel at La Paz, and also they were offered a refuel at Bogata (further south than the crash site) but preferred to continue on.

I don't think the airline is going to come out of this very well, good, considering our players have been on their planes very recently.

Sadly I think the pilot rather than the airline will end up taking the blame, perhaps rightly, but it will just compound the grief for his family at an already difficult time.

I doubt the airline will continue to operate though. By all accounts it's not a massive operation anyway but this incident will end them.

There was a suggestion that another plane was having problems at the same time and were prioritised for landing which may explain the holding pattern, but I'm expecting the investigators to reveal the explanation with their findings.

Sounds very much like a criminally negligent pilot fuck up. He probably didn't want to declare a fuel emergency initially as that would have triggered an investigation into his negligence in not refuelling in Bogota as he should have done. It seems he was cutting corners to save a few quid and apparently he had done this a couple of times before and got away with it. So in an attempt to cover his own arse, he actually managed to kill himself and 70 other people. All speculation but it will be no surprise to me if this happens to be the case.

A poster yesterday said that Charlton would be wheeled out. Well, he was right. Radio 4's sports bulletin this morning at 7.25 briefly reported the plane crash and then spent 5 minutes talking about the Munich disaster and Man Utd. Yes, Charlton was speaking about Munich. People were collapsing in the street apparently. No more about the accident yesterday.

Putting aside our attention loving neighbours......I suspect a huge shitstorm coming over this in Colombia. The owner of the airline flying the plane, the airline is shady to say the least, the aircraft is ancient, and flying to the limit of its range, the airline specialise in flying "celebrities" and seem to do little else....all recommended by somebody in South Americas version of EUFA.
The blame seems to be falling squarely on the owner/pilot who's dead. It's possible there were backhanders involved within CONMEBOL regarding the use of that airline and no doubt there'll be a few arses twitching within that organisation. The aircraft wasn't ancient; at 17 years old, it was only slightly above the world average. Properly maintained an aircraft can be safe for many years longer than that, but only if it's operated correctly.

Ancient perhaps over stating it, coming from someone who flew on a Dan Air Comet, and spent 12 years as part of the Vulcan to the sky team, but I think you know what I was getting at. Were City flying to Champions League games on this aircraft I am bloody sure several on here would have long since brought it up?

The fact is that the RJ/146 is a sturdy reliable jet is not an issue, and it looks very much like in this case the aircraft was not at fault.

Those arses may well twitch in the absence of the deceased owner of the operator, I suspect they will still want to hang a few out to dry and rightly so.
