Anyone play in the Wythenshawe Sunday League mid 90's?
I played for a Wilmslow team in that league, some rum games, The Piper, Red Rose, Tudor and The Happy Man to name a few.

Late seventies early eighties I used to get up to go and watch the Sharston labour club when I could be arsed...
Great times and piss funny... Billy Fizz (The physio...lol) the guy with a magic sponge, a spliff, and a quarter bottle of whiskey...Them were the days...

There was never a Sunday went by on the Painswick pitches that someone didn’t honk up at the first corner of the game. Usually hanging onto a goalpost.

Reckon the pubs shown were Mountain Ash, Woodpecker, Red Beret, Cornishman and Portway. Think all gone now except the Ash.
The Cornishman and the Red Beret are still open, the Portway, the Happy Man and the Cock of The North have been demolished and replaced with housings, the Woodpecker and the Mountain Ash are boarded up and are awaiting a similar fate!

Corndog was sold to the taxi guy who keeps knocking down the pubs and building houses on them apparently. But as it's doing well they have left it be.

The blackboy was meant to close too not been past it in years though.

Wythy was great for pubs growing up, I lived near the Tudor that was a rum pub.

They’ve spent a bit of money on The Black Boy so they’re clearly not envisaging it shutting just yet.

I believe it was sold to a developer a while ago but they’ve got no immediate plans to start work for the forceable, for some reason and have told the pub they’re happy for them to keep trading in the mean time.

Sad, all of them packed at the ends of the week back in the day. Was back there a few weeks ago and saw the Newall Green was still going. Happy Man ironic really, I never saw anyone smile in there, then I guess there is nowt to laugh about when it’s Wilson’s.

They put in for planning permission to demolish the Black Boy and replace it with housing/flats, planning was refused, it was knocked back because of over development of the site and lack of parking provision for the flats.

Wilson's was never the best, if memory serves me right, the Firbank, the Cornishman, the Mountain Ash and the Newall Green were all Wilson's Houses, crap beer, but all were always busy back in the day.

Happy Man was my local lol nearly got barred against Newcastle in 2012 running round with my top off when Yaya scored haha. Was a shit pub.

I tried to explain to my kids that you used to get large numbers of kids from one school 'waiting outside' for another school to come out, they looked at me in a "wtf was wrong with you lot in the 70s/80s" kind of way.

All Hallows and St Augustines mutated (and i use that word deliberately) into St John Plessington for a short inglorious period and they also set up a less chaotic girls school Cardinal Newman.
What’s funny is, the teachers mostly knew just down to the fact the number of knives that went missing from the dinner hall that day.
Ha ha, it was almost ‘tribal’. I was at South Wythenshawe and the many altercations between ‘us‘ and Poundswick, mainly by the boys, not so much us girls though. I even remember our Head teacher saying something once in assembly about rumours of an alleged gathering in Civic between the schools and the repercussions etc and that’s a long time ago.
I forgot about Cardinal Newman;)
For you to actually call it South Wythenshawe, it makes me think we may have gone to school together at some point.
Cornishman is thriving so too is the Red Beret (I live yards away) Mountain Ash still there also.
I have the pleasure of ‘The Cornishman’ in a couple of weeks, probably the old ‘Ozzies’, won’t feel the same being there with no Violent disorder taking place :-)

I played for ‘The Happy Man’ back in the 80’s, was a weird set up as it was basically ‘The Cock’ and ‘The Ash’ old teams disbanded.

Did my ACL in there, still remember the fat fuckers face who landed on my outstretched leg to snap it, he had a Mullet too !
