Platini concocting another anti City rule? 9+9

this has got to be against all the rules of employment, it is bordering on racism, how do they give such amatuers the power to ruin the beautiful game.

I reckon this won't stand up under EU law as well, but only for European nationals being discriminated against over English players in our case. It's also discriminatory against teams from those countries playing in UEFA competitions that have a small population and small football playing population as they have fewer young players to choose from.

Players like Savic & Pantilimon would not be at a club such as City, they would only be bought by us when they would be able to command a first team place on a regular basis and are at the top of their game. We'd most likely have to choose between Kolarov and Clichy, Dzeko and Balotelli. All European players (Okay Bosnia, Montenegro & Serbia not yet EU members but it's on the cards) who would have their employment rights affected under EU law. Only Balotelli and Clichy would be able to command places in teams in their mother countries that have any chance of competing for trophies at the highest level in UEFA competition.

If Platini's rule does not go through due to EU law and it's changed to EU nationals rather than 'local' it would then have a negative impact on those International teams that are part of UEFA but their countries are not members of the EU. Then he'll be doing a disservice to some of his UEFA member countries.

What will happen with Welsh and Monégasque players? Welsh teams play in English leagues and Monaco in the French Ligue2. If they are allowed as part of the English League/ French league system respectively will that then be considered unfair against e.g. Scottish and Northern Ireland players and what happens to those players who can declare for NI or ROI??

Plus I don't see how someone born in Hamburg would be 'Local' to Bayern Munich or Someone in Lens can be 'Local' to Olympique De Marseille etc. They are roughly the distance of travelling through 3 average sized UEFA countries apart.

One huge can of worms Platini. Leave it!

Does this mean we'd have to start buying all those home grown talents from the Rags, like Jones, Smalling and the like?

How will Arsenal get around it, move their club to France?

This is quite old news. I put a thread on BM about this back in May.

It's a bargaining tool in the constant club v country debate. It may or may not happen. There is also the suggestion that it's a method by which Barca are kept out in front of everyone.

We should be OK. Most of the all time great teams had some local (National players) and a spinkling of World Superstars. The club that really won't like this is Real Madrid.

This rule is even more short sighted than FFFP. Does he not see that this will just hinder the progression of 95% of the promising youth players. Big clubs will just net fish all the local & worldwide talent. Yes this rule will allow some through but surely it's obvious that the financially strong clubs will just exploit the rule and promising players at other clubs. It will almost lead to human trafficking, and talent half decent anywhere in the world will be tapped up, exploited, promised the world, and acquired before it's fair to do so. This rule will make for far more Freddie Adu's than Eto's. My point being that if this rule is indeed put in place the established teams in France, Italy, Spain, Germany and England will just plunder the world and their provincial clubs for their emerging talent at an unhealthy age. example if the likes of Stockport County, Bury, Oldham, Macclesfield, Bolton, Wigan et al look like they have a player anywhere near top level he will just be signed at 16 for peanuts and added to an already over sized youth system at the likes of Liverpool, United or Us. The top teams will have all the top young talent, thus restricting not only their chance of playing for said big club but actually making it at all. This rule will have all youth players dreaming of their chance at the big time, whilst all the time making it substantially harder for them to actually carve out a career. Yes giving the opportunity to 9 players is great, but that will be 9 players out of about 50 at each top side, with 50 knocking on the door each and every year, thus about 95% ending up on the scrap heap. This rule also makes a mockery of the FFFP. If a club cannot cash in on their star talents when they are actually worth something. Clubs like Southampton would have lost Walcott and Chamberlain for a faction of money they got. Everton would have lost Rooney at the time he signed pro terms, the rule protects no one, it will damage everyone except the elite. The lower leagues will disband, there will be 1 at most 2 top leagues in England ala Italy or Spain. Provincial teams will just exist to provide the established giants with talent, a talent pool of which 95% will be tossed on the scrap heap. So the established will be protected, we will see what is happening in Spain where the reserve side of Barcelona and Madrid would probably be in the top half of the league. Lucky for City and unlucky for Platini these xenophobic rules are coming a little late.

It's being done under the guise of "club issues" but it wouldn't surprise me he's been talking to the boss of his countrys national side who hasn't got any real french talent coming through and has been publically vocal about it.

As some one else as said, protects Spain,Germany and possibly his own nation but fucks English clubs off.

I am all for it, it is a great idea. It will well and truly fuck up every other club on the planet if brought in with the exception of those clubs who have grade 1 academys.

It will take years to implement and by the time it comes in our new super academy will be up and running and I have no doubt we will be able to compete at the highest level.

Oh and for those positions in the team where we need a superstar we will just go out and buy the 16,17,18 year old to fill the gaps.

Thing is the ECA won't sanction it and it is destined for the dustbin along with all the other brilliant ideas that Twatini tries to implement :-)
