I'd not thought about it till now but alongside the brilliant football, the trophies, the decline of the rags etc etc one of the best things about this golden era has been not having to take specific clubs hand me downs.

There was something a bit depressing about buying players who'd had their best years at more successful clubs that we disliked and hoping that they could still be arsed to put in a shift for us. In fairness a number of them did and proved good purchases but even then it sometimes felt a bit grubby applauding someone we'd spent years abusing. In some ways the ones that were taking the piss and just here for a semi-retirement pay day were easier to deal with; they were wankers before and just proved that further when they were here.

There may still be a case today to bring in a player later in his career because he can do a tactical job but the difference is they'd not be here simply because that's the best we can manage to attract in the circumstances.

Maybe when they eventually find an excuse to send us down to the National League North we'll be back in that position but for the time being next time we moan about one of our signings let's console ourselves with the fact at least he's not a McPointytwat.

Was about to say the same thing. The game at Hull stands out where Kompany got sent off early and he did a great job alongside Demichellis. Was a tough place to go at that stage and came away with a 2-0 win
