When did these awards get shifted to the end of the season? I remember Peter Barnes winning the young player of the year gong in 1976, and the awards bash was on the sunday night after we'd beaten Newcastle in the League Cup final in february. Shooting off at a tangent, anyone remember his acceptance speech? The poor lad could barely get a word out! No media training back then, I'd imagine.
