he is a destroyer

You don't need a destroyer when you are playing against a 10 man defence. Against Chelsea he totally dominated Matic who has been their main man this season

From where I was watching it was Fernandinho that was dominating Matic, although Fernando had a decent game.

He is ideal when we are playing a compact game, away from home. Which baffles me as to why he has probably played the most home games out of our 4 centre midfielders, and that is one of the reasons our home form has been so poor this season.
His game is suffering a bit, but I think he is a really good player. He just needs to play in a system that suits him and the team.

Pellegrini got it totally wrong against Hull and took too long to change it. And the result is Fernando gets criticism he doesn't really deserve

I like you Marvin, I really do, but I have never seen a football realted post from you that I agree with :-D

You thinking he's a really good player just confimrs to me that he is shite :)

the fundamental problem is our fascination with playing him in a 2 man midfield, it's not his game, it's not what makes him effective and I think it's damaging his confidence. He's a sit in front of the back 4 and mop up squad player, and should be playing behind 2 world class CM's, of the ilk of a Pogba/Koke and Yaya combination, with Fern there as cover. That's where this squad has to go in the summer. World class starting XI in every position with the quality of depth. Beating Barca and creating that European squad mentality would help facilitate this in the summer, as it's what Real do and what Barca and Bayern did at their best.

Although I agree with the idea, I'd never want a midfield three of the two Ferns and Milner, there is not quality there at all, just a lot of running. I don't know why we don't go with Nasri there, he's always wandering inside anyway, plus it means allowing Navas to play, who would be one of the first names on the team sheet at the moment.

I actually thought we were going to line up with Nasri inside on Saturday once he took Fernando off, but it seemed like Silva was playing inside and Nasri stayed out on the left.

I agree, he played there for Arsenal many times and his ball retention is second to Yaya's

so.......?

I thought Nasri in the centre would have been the best way to deal with Yaya's absence during the ACON and then the fucker went and got injured. :(

Haven't given up on Fernando yet, give him time, look at Garcia, we miss that fucker now.

Swap Dinho and Milner around, then probably that. (although I don't rate Milner particularly as CM, so I wouldn't be against Fernando behind Fernandinho and Nasri instead) Not convinced it would make much difference which of those options it was, as long as Nasri was there for them to pass it to and we actually kept a shape for once.

Much maligned, but thought he did well today. Much better suited to away games.

He seemed to grasp what was required from him today, keeping it simple seems to suit him.

Possibly,so far, much like his Porto mate,he's been trying too hard to impress which has subsequently affected his natural game.I'm still convinced,as he gets fitter and more acclimatised,he can be a useful option.

Saying that,if we can get a return on our cash,i'd be redirecting it Southampton's way.
