Only criticism I have of him is he gives 2/3 needless free kicks away in dangerous areas every game when he doesn't need to. Same problem as Barry.

Didn't even highlight his goal on motd and I don't think it was a deliberate elbow. He's not looking at Costa at all and his arm is barely bent. I've seen much worse.

Didn't seem remotely worried about Costa, the bigger guys Yaya, VK and Mangala had his back but he just smiled when Costa said something to him...Think he did mean to plant the elbow and I would imagine it would hurt, think he has towed a fine line twice so far...I think with the position he plays, compensating for Yaya and the fact he is probably told to stop the punter even if it means commiting a foul bookings will be a plenty yhis season

Maybe I'm pissed or maybe I've still got my blue tinted specs on but watched the 'elbow' a few times and still dont see it as a straight red as most commentators/pundits have been saying. Yes his arms were up but to me only the player himself knows if he deliberately caught him I couldn't see any definite intent

Are they needless though? They usually occur when our players are out of position and give us time to organise.

I'm talking about the ones when players are going away from our goal, all he needs to do he put pressure on and hold his position but he lunges in too often. Similar to Vinny some times. Tactical fouls to stem the flow of an attack are just part of his role, I accept that.

Thought he was brilliant today, arguably man of the match. Maybe I'm seeing things through blue tinted glasses, but I genuinely don't think his challenge on Costa was a red card, regardless of what MOTD2 say. I like the fact he gave a bit back and think it was a deliberately heavy challenge, but it wasn't a full on elbow.

He was giving it back to costa for his earlier challenge on fern, which if Atkinson had bothered was a yellow, the elbow in my view was never a red as he had eyes for the ball and was using his arms for leverage...

Shearer can fuck right off, as much as I wouldn't have blamed Dinho if it was deliberate, the replay shows him clearly looking at the ball and Costa jumping late into an elbow above him.
