Not the modern way pudge and safer to punch in a congested penalty areaI love him but I'd prefer him to punch less and try catching the ball more.
If it's a wicked cross and you're surrounded by other players yes, but if the cross is a soft one and you've got time and space to catch it then you should do just that, doesn't matter if the the rest of the penalty area is congested. Not the modern way pudge and safer to punch in a congested penalty area
Definitely not captain material.
As it is his decision making is poor and you want Hart to decide for the rest on the pitch?, with his self-aggrandisement moments?
Is that you Kasper?
I agree punching the ball is the safer option at times and it does seem to be drilled into 'keepers nowadays to do so. But all too often I think more and more 'keepers in the league punch when it's easier and more practical to catch; punch first, catch never rather than second. Not the modern way pudge and safer to punch in a congested penalty area
I think most keepers are having catching the ball trained out of them.be interesting to see what pep decides to do as with all the playersI agree punching the ball is the safer option at times and it does seem to be drilled into 'keepers nowadays to do so. Not just Joe, it seems to be the way for most 'keepers. Gomes yesterday dived and punched it away for a corner with no challenge, the one when Dinho was fouled.
Time and space being the key words here, courtoius seems to catch more but then he is a giantIf it's a wicked cross and you're surrounded by other players yes, but if the cross is a soft one and you've got time and space to catch it then you should do just that, doesn't matter if the the rest of the penalty area is congested.
I watched the end of the Brighton Wolves game yesterday and right at the end Brighton got a corner and their player whipped in a fast dipping cross which the keeper caught cleanly even though the area was congested.
Agree completely, not just with crosses but with weak shots as well. Keepers never even seem to try and catch the ball these days, despite it being possibly the most reassuring thing a keeper can do. Jan Oblak at Atletico seems to be the only keeper I've seen recently who doesn't take the cowards option and actually tries to catch shots and crosses if he can get both hands to it and it just lifts so much pressure off the defence.I agree punching the ball is the safer option at times and it does seem to be drilled into 'keepers nowadays to do so.
