Player Topic: Navas.....

Did you miss the part when he gave Chelsea a throw deep in our half, rather than use his left foot? Never gives the ball away indeed.

Fucking hell what a nit. Ok, for the benefit of anyone else demented enough to take a word like 'never' completely literally, I'll switch it for 'very seldom'. Either way, the obvious point I was trying to make is that his ball retention is excellent.....

The main criticism levelled at Navas is his perceived inability to 'find his man' with his crossing of a ball. In his defence this type of pass is the most difficult to achieve. He is usually a full pace with attackers and defenders moving quickly. A split second can make the difference in a fast moving situation. I would have Jesus in my team every time. He never hides, always wants to be involved. He is gifted with superb technical ability, he rarely miss controls the ball and uses it effectively. To quote the late , great Brian Clough, " you need lots of piano shifters and onLy need one or two pianists". Navas never complains, and works hard every game. Defensively, he excels. Time and time again against PSG he made timely interceptions covering for Pablo, and others. Don't fall for the media telling us Navas disappoints. He doesn't. Under Pep, I can see Jesus becoming an excellent full back in the mould of Alves at Barca. See him for what he is, and not what the media portray him to be.

No doubt about it, he had a good game against Chelsea I'd say 7/10. It was probably his best game of the season - just not good enough.. Can someone remind me when he scored his last leagu goal, was it Tottenham two years ago, or was there another league goal since then - just not good enough.

If all fit, Nasri, DeBrynne, Silva, Sterling, Yaya, Fernando, Fernandinho, should all be in the side ahead of him.

Love his attitude but every fuckin decision he makes is wrong. When Nasri missed his 1 0n 1,why didn't he just side foot bend it into the half empty net ?

If your only yardstick by which you beat him is goals, then considering what else he brings to the table, i think you are being very narrow minded. The lad does an awful lot for the team. Thankfully, this thread is now becoming much more positive towards him because of that.

Can't score a goal to save his life but does everything but cross the ball well. You need guys like that on the squad to win.

Will be much more effective in a team that has players who are organised and motivated to make committed runs beyond the opposition and into the penalty area. When it happens (like yesterday) we (and players like Navas) are far more potent.

Wingers that play consistently for elite clubs should be providing 10 goals and 10 assists minimum. Now I don't know his stats but I can't imagine he's even hit 5 goals or assists

Edit. Just checked his player profile he has made 45 appearances in all competitions this season providing 6 assists and zero goals. That is quite frankly terrible especially playing in such an attacking side. If we managed to get someone like Bale or Costa they'd add an extra 20 goals to the team

It's not his lack of goals that makes him a poor player it's his overall inability to contribute through finishing passing and crossing. I accept he works hard, damn hard but in my book effort without product is just not quite enough for me. I understand why others might rate him, but I don't!

And cost £80m in the process.

Navas is a steady Eddie but seems to add balance to the side. He has had a decent season for me although like others have said he will never be a top player because his final ball and scoring record is so poor.

He is on a nice little run of form though so I have no issues with him starting currently.

Who would people like him to cross too in the box ?
Most times the best he can get is a corner.wish he would just run the ball straight towards the goal and take on the keeper
What he needs is a goal hanger type of forward to pick out which we don't have

He's not a poor player by any stretch of the imagination.

His assists would be a lot better if players actually committed themselves to getting into the box rather than hovering outside of it.

For me, I'm delighted everytime he is named on the sheet because I believe we are much stronger with him than without him

He adds so much balance to our team when he plays. He can be frustrating but so can the rest. He has put in a few good crosses (also some bad) recently and there has been no one there to meet them.

If he had more end product he would be one of the best there is. Definite starter for me at the moment

Even if he hasn't been having a good game, he still puts in a shift and doesn't go into hiding.
