I agree he's lost some legs, but why aren't we playing him like a 32 y/o? Is there another 32 year old box to box midfielder at the highest level who plays 180 minutes a week?

He should be playing every other game and if we did that I genuinely think we'd see his performances shoot back up to something approaching his best, because the mind is willing, but the body isn't able to do that role anymore - and things like sprinting back into position, or a lapse in concentration when you're marking are the first things to happen when you're knackered.

I still think the best thing the club could do this summer is to offer him a bench role at a much reduced wage. If he doesn't want it, fine, but if his ego could take the bit part role, he'd be a force of nature to bring off the bench - in practically any scenario because as both an attacking substitution to get a goal or trying to choke out a game with possession, he'd be fantastic.

And he's clearly a big leader in the dressing room as well as on the pitch, you can see that from the way the other players speak of him, and if the personal relationship is OK, having a player who is familiar with Guardiola's training methods would be a bonus too.
Pellers is in the press saying that his appearances will have to be managed.

Well it's a start I guess - unfortunately he didn't have the foresight to bring in a player in the last 2 years who can deputise for him. None of the other three can control the game the way he does, and I imagine that when his game time is "managed" we will experience a similar drop in for as we get every AFCON.

At least The man is hugely respected by his fellow players

Why they are treated differently? Personally don't understand the hate for the big man. Seems like Myths perpetuated by media and Bandwagon's jumped on by fans.
No doubt someone will bring up the cake. So Yaya once said some shit about cake. It means he's lazy and shit and to blame for everything that ever goes remotely wrong on the pitch for city

Hatred is a bit strong. The dislike as I'd call it is down to Yaya and his agents numerous attempts at manufacturing moves away, the accusation the club refused him compassionate leave and the constant bullshit that his agent spouts about him not being shown any respect by the club.

The criticism of him though is on a purely footballing level.

They won't have access to City's analytics but they all have OPTA which the club will use as well.

However this stat doesn't surprise me at all.

The media are swimming in distance covered stats these days, and # of high intensity sprints. You see it every week in an article about Klopp or Spurs this season.

So if Yaya is so lazy, as has been the narrative for so long on programs like MNF - why haven't they produced the stats to show it? You can just imagine the smug face on Carragher as he shows us that Henderson or Dele Alli run 5km more per game, and sprint 3x as often, but for some reason they've never shown it.

So hearing that statistcally, Yaya runs as far as anyone in our side doesn't surprise me at all, nor should it anyone else when we see him cover box to box every week. Even in his poor performances he still runs up and down the middle 60m of the pitch almost non-stop, especially with our propensity to get counter attacked.

He's not lazy, he's just old, and overplayed. He was never the most mobile compared to someone like Lampard, but for some reason Pellegrini has not bought any player who could potentially play a similar passing role in midfield and take some of the game time away from a player who needs a rest.
Agreed. Whilst we have not brought in a similar player, (Are there any?) there are alternatives not necessarily like for like i.e. change the formation. I don't like where Sterling and de Bruyne play for a start, and at the moment no midfielders join up with Silva and Aguero. No one makes any runs into the box. It's all flank play, and the pull backs always go astray because no one is in the box.

Toure was such a magnificent player for us, that we're now in transition as certain aspects to his game are now in redundant. It's about getting the most out of him as possible. Whether that means starting him every game I don't know. He's been important these last few weeks

It is so depressing to watch Yaya today....
He is just jogging around, trying to close down players, but when he moves closer, they just pass ball to the other one and that's it.
2 out of 3 times he has a ball he loses it. I loved it about him before that he rarely lost the ball, but nowdays he is so slow, he is always 1 step too far, or 1 too close. He is turning around in the speed of snail, and when it's 50/50 ball he never wins it, he's moving his legs so slowly that when he sticks them up, play is 5 meters away...
Some moment of magic here or there doesn't compensate for that he is passanger more often then not.
I hope for some mobile, dynamic, ball playing CM (like Yaya from 2 seasons ago)in the Summer because right now playing with him is like playing with 10 man.

I thought my stream had stuck he's moving around that fucking slow.

I think it wouldn't make much difference if he stands in 1 place instead of his "pressing"

I am sorry to say that as I was one of his biggest fans not so long ago.
