Players from the past that you think would have thrived under Pep

The Brazilian striker Jo would have flourished under Guardiola
I was thinking about this player. I remember when we signed him, getting all excited because we signed a Brazilian. Then I saw him play, what a disappointment. He couldn’t even control the ball. What a let down he was.

Peter & Ken Barnes
Ken was a football genius of a player he made the Revie plan work, they tried it without Ken and it failed Revie told McDowall that Ken had to play
Peter was rapid with a wand of a left foot great ball skills

Lots of those mentioned above particularly Lake I would agree with Would be interesting in who he would convert to a fullback

The Revie Plan is so understated .I had no idea Ken Barnes was so important to it.

In any event,This innovative tactic ,formed in Manchester ( and specifically City's Reserve team who operated it apparently for a whole season ) was of course picked up by Pep in a fashion during his early years here.

I also actually remember Mancini going to leicester City away with no strikers due to injury and winning 1nil,Milner I think playing false 9 or something similar...which is different to Revie,an outright Striker lying deep. I think ,off the top of my head,we are the only team in the country to win without any recognized strikers on the pitch ! I could be wrong ?

TRP, a great tactic,we were the first in this country to use I believe back in the 50s,alto the idea was heavily influenced by overseas nations,...Hungary ?

If any of the above is incorrect please shout up !

Gareth Barry comes to mind. I think Pep woukf have loved a houng Zabaleta in the hybrid right back centre mid role.

Tevez goes without saying.

Berkovich was a cracking football player talent. He’d have been excellent in today’s game.

Spot on I guess it’s been used by clubs on occasions but I think you are correct about it being a season tactic

I think it was in Ken Barnes autobiography that I read about what Revie said

Pep has surprised me this season - giving up total ball control for a more flexible system.

Many players could thrive under Pep - but many talented players have not.

A young Benarbia would've been interesting under Pep.

my controversial take is Bernabia was perfect for his time with us particularly his passing range and vision and Huckerby breaking the lines and running on to them (shame we didn't get him earlier in his career but we probably couldn't have afforded him back then) whereas Kinkladze was a great player but just not what we needed at that time. We were backs to the wall fighting all the way and whilst I admired Kinky's undoubted ability I always felt he was too flash for us.
