Players Past Their Best

Have to disagree there. Not past his best when he signed for us. Perhaps it's my blue tinted glasses but from what I remember he was exactly what we needed at the time and he hadn't had a great career due to injuries before joining us.

Was a great Captain for us and didn't he get sent off for something daft a la Kevin Horlock's aggressive walking?

I'd also say Mark Kennedy was decent for us. That first year in Division 1 he tore it up.

My point is had we got him earlier in his career ,we would have benefitted more with a younger Andy Morrison .
That's why he is on my list.

One player no one has mentioned was Tommy Hutchison. He was a brilliant winger who wasted his best years at Blackpool and Coventry.

he could have done City a power of good had we signed him ten years earlier - arguably won the league if we'd had him instead of Marsh, or if he'd played in place of Allison's daft inclusions like Mellor, Carrodus, etc.

he could beat a man, could cross accurately, and was two-footed. All three attributes are sadly lacking in today's game - PL and Euro 2016, from what I've seen. Unfortunately, people only recall his own goal v Spurs at Wembley. (Incidentally, he didn't "score at both ends", as some say. It was at the same end of the ground.)

The original question was about players joining us past their best. I think we are coming from 2 different perspectives here.

If you look at Andy Morrison's career prior to joining us it wasn't that great.. If AM had played at the highest level and been a regular for club and country, then yes he was past his best.

However, in reality he'd been playng in the lower leagues, didn't have a great injury history and was to a certain extent a risk. A risk that payed out very well though.

When you look at his playoing career where did he ever achieve what he did with us? Personally I belive that his best years were with us.

Found him really frustrating. At times he was brilliant and loved it when he swapped wings.

However his insistence to try and cut back in as he was so 1 footed was annoying.

Checked his history and 8 goals in 66 games isn't a bad return for a winger.

Eh?

Takeover - 1st Sept 08
Kompany signed 22nd August 08
Zabba signed 31st August 08

;)
Officially Yes, In reality, Not so. The Abu Dhabi Utd group were actively, though unofficially, heavily involved in club matters from early August 2008.

Might be a load of b*llocks, of course, but just quoting what a relative of mine, who was quite close to Peter Swales back in the day, but still retained quite a lot of his shares until Wardle was ousted, told me.
