Players that we always used to get linked to but never signed...

We were once linked to somebody called Ian Rush in the late 70s, but Malcolm Allison assessed him as too slow.
Not sure if Rush ever made it, but thankfully we had Bobby Shinton and Stuart Lee.

Wasn't Alan Oakes the Chester manager at the time and got in touch with us to say we must sign this kid Rush? Ours if we want him. But we signed mick Robinson instead

Seems bizarre now but wasn't there a Michael Owen rumour years ago?

My mind is telling me he got a really good reception when returning from injury (no, really?) in a night match v Newcastle (above may be hopelessly inaccurate) when we thought he was poised to join us

Agree that Malbranque is an excellent shout

Not sure about Owen, but there was a similar scenario when the Leeds substitute Robbie Fowler was on the verge of signing for City.

Daniele De Rossi
Everyone single window under Mancini.

I still drool over the thought of a Yaya De Rossi pivot in a Mancini team, would have hands down been the best midfield partnership the Premier League had ever seen.
