Players volunteering to take salary cuts?

I don’t agree with how much footballers get paid, however if my boss asked me to take a drastic pay cut, so I could prove myself I’d tell him where to go.

I agree with how much they get paid. Look how much money clubs earn because of them.

Most players just restructure their deals, but on occasion you'll find an older veteran will take an actual pay cut since they've made a ton of money already. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning have done it in recent years. It happens in the NBA sometimes as well to allow teams to bring in the best players. Someone like Dwayne Wade might take pay cut to allow his team to sign a big free agent.

I can remember asking Brian Horton a question about players wages a long time ago. The answer he gave the city fans was along these lines that all players should be getting smaller swages but bigger bonuses. He would also not talk to players agents but only to the players themselves.
